I5 750 CPU

Hi
this is my first build and the computer wont even post, fans spin, graphics card, cd drive and hdd all power up,
motherboard led's light up and then it shuts down after about 5 seconds repeating this cycle over and over,
i've assembled outside the case to check for shorts,installed cpu and heatsink 3 times,
checked all cables and connections at least 10 times, reseated ram, memory is installed in slots 1 and 3,
tried with 1 stick in each slot, checked cpu socket for damage or bent pins, i'm completely lost.
the only thing i can think of is the ram is not on the memory support list, but is for the p55 platform and i5 750 cpu,
could this be the problem?
any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.
