X58A-UD3R REV 2 and SATA3

My questions are concerning:
D:/ Western Digital WD Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6Gbs: ACHI mode on the Marvell controller

I see on the download page only one driver that seems to apply to me for the Marvell controller;
1. Marvell Console Driver (SATA3)

There is also a 2. Marvell RAID Driver (SATA3) for AHCI Mode (not installed) but I am not using RAID on that controller.

When I run the install for 1. Marvell Console Driver I see it installed on the c: drive, but no where do I find it in device manager to load for the WD drive.
What is Marvell Console Driver and what does it do?  How does it load for the WD drive?  I see no Marvell drivers avaiable in Device Manager.

Currently the WD drive shows up in Device Manager under IDE controller using a Windows ACHI driver?

What is the best set up for this drive?

I see newer drivers and firmware at Driver Station but I have no idea whcih ones to get or how to install them.

Please help.

If everything is working all right as the saying goes "Don't fix what isn't broke".

Your Marvell controller is under system devices. If you don't have any "!" or "?" marks over anything than just leave anything a lone.

It is telling you that the drive is running with the ACHI driver. So that is right. Where the drives are showing up in Device Manager.

That is where windows puts them. It has been that way from day one of windows. The newer board do word them different but they are still in the same place.

Yes windows does list thing with words that really don't match but as long as everything is working leave it a lone.

OK, thank you. I will leave well enough alone.
However, I do not see anything Marvell in Device Manager under system devices.
So what is the  Marvell Console Driver?  I see it installed on the hard drive in the proper folders.
So what is Marvell Console?  What does it do?  Can I delete it; there is no uninstall?
If I don't need it then I have no Marvell software installed.
Educate me please.

Could the "Marvell Console Driver" be for the chipset?  If so how do I install it (under DOS)?

You have two sata controllers on the board. One is the Intel & the other one is Marvell.

The drivers are really small and they are really not hurting anything to have them installed.

You have 6 - Intel sata 2 at 3gbs. 2 - Marvell at sata 2 at 3gbs & 2 - Marvell at sata 3 at 6gbs.

Marvell were the first to come out with 6gbs. Then Intel came out with thier own 6gbs.

So if you have a drive that is Sata-3/6gbs you would run it on the 6gb Marvell controller.

If you are not running anything on those 4 ports you should be able to disable them.

Thank you.  I think the deal is if I am not trying to run a RAID on the Marvell Controller, I do not need any driver or Marvell software..
I just hook it up and it goes where it goes.  So the WD drive shows up in Device Manager under IDE controller using a Windows ACHI driver.

I have a friend I built a computer for in calif. He is always asking things too and I tell him all the time Jeff.

If it is working and you don't have any problems. Just close your eyes and don't think about it because is is just going to make you go nuts.

Yes everybody wants to know why is it this way and why is it doing what it is doing. I have learn that sometimes don't think about it.

The thing is as long as it is working. Just leave well enough alone. I have been play and working on computers from the early 80s.

I have seen almost everyhting that has gone wrong with a computer. I tell people that most of the times that when you are having problems.

Just do a search on the net and about 99% of the time you will find the answer.

Hi!

I have X58A-UD3R rev.1.0. and I recently installed the Marvell Console Driver (SATA3) and now windows boot time is very long.
I've installed this driver because windows action center recommended it and I've been having problems with postgresgl database for quite some time now and thought that this might solve it. Can this driver be uninstalled? Can i just delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\Marvell folder? Is there something else I should do?

OS: Windows7 Ultimate SP1, 64-bit
BIOS Version: F6
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU    930  @ 2.80GHz, 2794 Mhz
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600 Kingston
Hard drives: Crucial M4 CT512M4SSD2 512 GB SSD - os is installed here
                  Western Digital WD15EARS-00Z5B1 1.5TB - I got the message "Solve a problem with WD SES Device" in action center
                  Kingston SSDNow SNV425-S2 128GB SSD
                  All are in AHCI mode.

Don't delete the folder. Just go to control panel / Programs and features and uninstall it from there.

I forgot to mention that i can't uninstall the driver from Programs and Features. I don't see it there. I also don't see it in the Device Manager.

It's not there either.

Can i delete it using Driver Fusion? Is this safe?

Yes why not it is a uninstall program.

I uninstalled this controller and all the other stuff i installed on that day and it still takes very long time to boot. Then i cleared CMOS, which didn't help either. So I have no idea what is going on. Do you have any suggestions?

One place to look at is msconfig and see if something in there is causing the problem at start up.
