Gigabyte GTX260 Super Overclocked + Enermax Infiniti 650W
« on: February 07, 2010, 06:49:04 am »
I rebuilt my PC using my existing Enermax Infiniti 650W PSU to run my Gigabyte GTX260 Super Overclocked.

I was finding the PC would restart in COD4 and 3DMark06. I stuck my old 7600GS in and I had no problems. Sent my 260 back to Gigabyte and it got replaced.
Stuck the new one in, still the same problem!

These are the four combinations I have tried.
- There is one dedicated 6 pin plug for GPU which I have used with a) one from the red socket b) one split cable that uses 2 of the black sockets, as shown above.
- Using 2 split cables supplied with GPU plugged into 2 black sockets as shown.
- Using the two red sockets.
- One red socket and a split cable into 2 of the black sockets.

Sometimes it tells me there are voltage problems on boot and revert to basic bios settings, which in turn, I get an application error, asking me to close the program (COD4)

Does anyone think this PSU can't supply the required amps for the GPU?

What is your full system spec? Have you done basic things first like update BIOS using latest drivers etc? Have you manually tried setting voltages for various things in BIOS?

CPU: Intel i5-750
MOBO: Gigabyte P55A-UD4P
RAM: Kingston KHX2000C9D3T1K2/4GX Kit (2x2G) DDR3-2000 PC3-16000
GPU: Gigabyte GTX260 Super Overclock GV-N26SO-896I
HDD: Seagate 1GB 7200.12 ST31000528AS
OS: Windows 7 Professional

Restarts in COD4 and 3DMark06

I updated BIOS and changed voltages, did work for 20 minutes instead of 20 seconds. But it is restarting within the first minute.

Is there anyway you could test your PSU? It could well be a faulty PSU. 650w is plenty for that setup so could only think its possibly a faulty PSU?

Works fine browsing and with my 7600GS. I have had the PSU for a couple of years now, which I used with the 7600GS. But it may have lost it performance over the 2 years.

I am going to go and buy a new one, Corsair HW-750.

The GTX260 will use alot more power than your 7600GS which makes me think if the GTX260 has been replaced its either going to be PSU or something wrong with the PCI-E slot not delivering power properly to the card.
