GA-G41M-ES2L overclocking RAM to 1066MHz

GA-G41M-ES2L overclocking RAM to 1066MHz
« on: February 09, 2010, 12:08:54 pm »
After reading the product page for the GA-G41M-ES2L motherboard
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3024
I read that that 1066MHz DDR2 modules can be used. Yet when I got round to installing the RAM it only runs at 800 MHz. Surely there is a way to overclock the RAM to run at its intended speed. I have quite a lot of experience of building PCs and repairing them but absolutely no overclocking experience whatsoever. Any help would be much appreciated.

Guys? Any help would be appreciated.
I've been looking through the BIOS options and the section responsible for overclocking and so forth seems to be the M.I.T. (Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker) section and the only option that seems to be for overclocking the memory is "System Memory Multiplier" which is set to Auto. The only two other options in this field are 2.00B and 2.40B where 2.00B actually slows the RAM down even further to 667 Mhz and 2.40B doesn't have any effect at all on the RAM (800 Mhz). Am I missing something here? I'm at a total loss as what to do next.

maybe its too late, but 1066 memory its suported with OC, so you must increase FSB to 266 at least to get memory working at 1066

I also have the same problem.

I bought some Kingston Hyper X and should work to 1066mhz but my system is only working as 800mhz ive tried overclocking the cpu a little by changing the FSB but the system then wont boot.

Surely there must be a resolve to this. Ive been told some gigabyte motherboards have higher options than 2.00B and 2.40B but we dont and i think this would help.

I am running a a intel q9650 which has a 1333fsb which is more than enough for the memory to go 1066

any ideas anyone ???

Hi,

Have you checked the motherboard manual? Having just downloaded a copy and having a quick read through it explains the settings you need to make on pages 35 & 36.

Yeah i checked the manual.

But having played with the setting the only way to get the memory frequency to 1066 is to crank up the fsb but then system wont boot so i am assuming there is other setting need to be done

I am unfamiliar with this motherboard but usually you have to disable the link between the FSB strap and Northbridge and set it to manual before upping the speed of the bus.

Basically what I posted. On Asus boards it is just that "FSB strap to Northbridge". It just means that the two are tied together so that if you increase one the other follows so you need to break that link so that you have manual control.

Right I have found what you need ;D It is called System Memory Multiplier and it comes under Dram Performance Control in the MIT section of your BIOS. See manual: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/motherboard_manual_ga-g41m-es2l_1.1_e.pdf
I leave it up to you to play with your settings. Have fun.

Had a look at this as was first thing i looked at but as you can see by the pics attached whether its Auto,2.00B,2.40B its always at a max of 800mhz and lower on 2.00B on other forums ive noticed some gigabyte boards have higher ones but not this one i think this is what is stopping it myself.

Yes I would have to agree from the pictures. It just doesn't allow you to go far enough. Could do with a BIOS tweak being written.
