Z77X-D3H support for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST)

I contacted Gigabyte to ask if this board will support a later version of RST (currently 11.6 on the website, but most recent version of RST is 12. and they said they have no plans to. Is it safe to update to 12.8 of RST without official support from the motherboard manufacturer? What does everyone else do?

I generally use the latest release I can find but you may have some issues especially with shutdown.
I always disable acceleration and reboot prior to updating and then setup again.
I am pretty sure some of the "fans still spinning" after shutdown issues are linked to the later releases of IRST
Noticed this today on a system that I have been using(an Asrock Z77) -went back to the older version and everything was fine.
