Can a AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 Socket AM3+ 4 Core Processor - 3.60GHz work in a M68

Hi Guys

Not sure if anyone can tell me if a AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 Socket AM3+ 4 Core Processor - 3.60GHz, 3.80GHz Turbo will work in a M68M-S2P motherboard. I've searched the Internet & forums but some say it will while others say it wont.
I cannot see the CPU on the Gigabyte compatibility sites either.

Some say it will work in a M68MT-S2P Mb but is that board the same as a M68M-S2P mb?
Thanks in anticipation

No. The AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 will only work in a GA-M68MT-S2P (rev. 3.1) board.

I should add that this is only what is officially supported. Some people have gotten AMD FX processors to work with boards that do not officially support them. The problem is that there is probably a reason for no official support. AMD FX processors are demanding on the power requirements for the motherboards. Motherboards that are designed to support the AMD FX processors have this in mind.

Anyone is free to try anything they want if they are adventurous. It is OK as long as they know what the limitations and consequences are. Most people just want a computer that simply works and is reliable. For them sticking with what is known or recommended seems a better course.

Unfortunately, I am one of those. After years of building our PC's at home, blowing several mb's in my time and spending weeks trying to fault find, I am just happy when our 4 PC's starts up. Will still tickle with upgrading them though but like to be sure of compatibility.

Thanks again.  :)

  • If it s not broken, fix it until it is !
Why not get a FM2/FM2+ platform instead of AM3+ ,as an equivalent quad core FM2 APU will perform better than the FX 4100 with lower power consumption and better on-board video performance.
For example the older FM2 A8 5600K will be better  on the CPU side and will be cooler and more overclockable along better video performance than that 2007 nvidia chipset on-board.

Oh ,and even if it runs that FX 4100 will not deliver it s best as the HT is lowered ,you might be disappointed in such scenario.

Go AM3+ only for six /octo cores and this boards are more expensive as the CPU-s.

Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

1.ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 + FX 6300 + H60
2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2
3.Gigabyte F2A75-D3H + A4 5300
4.ASUS AM1M-A + Athlon 5150

Hi
Thanks everyone for your help and guidance with this query. I must say that I was surprised at how quick I received replies as in other forums you can wait weeks for a reply (if you actually get one).
This is one of the reasons that I have settled for another GB motherboard. There was a package going that was within my current budget so I now have a
AMD BULLDOZER FX-4100 3.6GHz QUAD CORE 8GB DDR3 GIGABYTE 78LMT mb. It seems to cope with my requirements at present but I will definitely be looking into those FM2's in the future.
Thanks again for your help.    :)

It s not a bad configuration ,but ... if cost wise you got it cheaper there is not problem :)
FX 4100 is ok in some aspects. It s rather easy to cool and gets the job done.
FM2 + will be a great platform for most of the users as FM2 shows already.
Low power with great graphics for the money.
