B85M-D3H Turbo Boost problem after a Bios update
« on: December 06, 2013, 09:49:37 am »
Hi,

I've built up a computer with Gigabyte B85M-D3 motherboard (model revision 0 or 1),   Intel Haswell I5-4570 (3,2 Ghz / 3,6 turbo mode)  and 2 sticks of 4 Go DDR3 Kingston hyperX Blu.
I'm using Win7 64bits.

I got some boot problems using Dual Channel memory,  then i tried to update the Bios with Q-Flash mode.
I downloaded the latest bios available F8 from gigabyte website ( http://www.gigabyte.fr/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4567&dl=1#bios ).

I can't say yet if it solved my random boot problem (it seems to work fine for now) but another problem appeared.
My Boost Cpu clock ratio is now set to 34 so it runs at ~3.4 Ghz in turbo mode instead of ~3.6 Ghz before.
There is an option about Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology we can enable instead of letting the Bios configure it, but it doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.
( my apologies if my english is not correct)

Maybe that is why Gigabyte came out with that update. Turbo Boost only runs when it needs the extra power when it needs it.

Before it could have been giving a false reading. Where are you reading the CPU setting? I just check mine i7-3930/3.2 ghz with CPUz.

I have the Turbo Boost on and mine is at 3.2 ghz. Turbo Boost only comes into play when you need it.

Hi dmdilks,

I've readen it in both the UEFI bios and running a CPU stress test in AIDA64 (where turbo reached 3.6 Ghz before if i remember well)
I've just checked  CPUZ which tells about the default frequency at 3.2Ghz but there is nothing about turbo.

Thank you for your help.

edit: running the same stress test with AIDA64, GPUZ also displays a core frequency ~3.4 Ghz

In the UEFI Bios, MIT Current Status section, we can see both default and turbo frequency.
Now it's set on 3.2 / 3.4,  where i used to see 3.2 / 3.6 before the update.

I can't really tell you what to look for. Because I don't run any benchmarks or stress test.

It is just me that I don't worry about the little things. The thing is yes it should be working.

But the thing is it sounds like you fix your boot problem, but now you have a minor problem.

Again this just me I would be happier than a pig in crap that the computer is now running fine.  ;D

Maybe Gigabyte fix one thing, but screw some thing else up and not knowing what they had done.

I don't worry about benchmark either, but i've readen this extra boost power could be usefull for videogames.
For now i'm not running power hungry programms so it's ok. And if the new bios really fixed the boot problem i can deal with that.
It seems to work fine now.
I will wait for the next bios release to see what happen.

Thank you :)
