Gigabyte p67a-ud7-b3 sometimes wont boot, no power!
« on: February 10, 2014, 09:17:51 am »
Hi everybody.

Im new here and tried searching for my problem but i haven't found anything that explains my problem..

Sometimes my computer wont boot, or even start, it seems like its nog getting any power to the motherboard when I try to power it up.
No LEDs are lit up, the built in powerbutton on the motherboard doesn't lit up blue like it usually do.

I know that there is power from the PSU to the motherboard because I can get it to start by unplugging the 24pin power cable on the motherboard and put it back in again. Then all the LEDs and the powerbutton will light up and i can start it without problems again.

I can really say how often it happens but often enough to make me want to throw it out the window. Sometimes it can work for weeks, sometimes days..
I could have lived with it just with the workaround but its a rackmounted computer that is in our rental stock so i really need to get this sorted out.

The components are:
Gigabyte p67a-ud7-b3
Intel i7 processor
Corsair AX850 PSU
2x Corsair 4gb ram (in slot 1 & 3)
AMD Firepro v7900
AMD Firepro v3900
AMD Firepro S400 sync card

Im willing to try almost everything at this point. Please help :)

Regards,
Magnus

I'd start by performing a CLR_CMOS (BIOS reset)  Then re-seat all of the boards components, including the CPU.  This problem is typically related to the BIOS, but can occur in certain hardware configurations.  Difficult to troubleshoot since it doesn't reproduce consistently.

Thanks for your answer!

I have tried that, and updating BIOS.
Still having problem though. I have replaced the battery now with a new one, I dont think that is the problem but its worth a try..

I had the same thing happen to me. But when it did it I would get it boot with playing with the PSU switch.

Now when you pull the 24 pin do you unplug the power from the PSU? If you are turning off the power by the switch too.

You are doing to many things at once. Next time this happens try just the switch. Then try the plug.

One other thing is look at the plug to see if one of the pins hasn't been push out. Even try leaving the power plug in the PSU.

The switch in the on position. Look at the plug on the board too see if you might have a pin that is bent over.
