6gb of ram installed, 4gb of ram usable

6gb of ram installed, 4gb of ram usable
« on: January 20, 2010, 01:08:45 pm »
Hi,

I recently built a computer, with 6gb of ddr3 corsair dominator ram, however (under system information) it shows that only 4gb of the 6gb of ram is usable.

After going through other forums, I eventually came to the conclusion that i need to enable memory remapping. I couldn't find anything to do with that in the BIOS. Does anyone know what it's under? Or if this isnt the solution, then what is?

Motherboard - P55A-UD4

OS: Windows 7 Pro. 64bit

I've heard of people having to enable XMP somewhere in the memory settings, don't know exactly where as I do not own an i5/i7 board. Also make sure you're using latest BIOS

Hi,
Have you downloaded the manual, it should show bios settings in there?
Cheers

it seems like kind of bug in this OS, just found this solution on unofficial win 7 forum:

1) run
2) type "msconfig"
3) go under the "boot" tab
4) click "advanced options" button
5) UNCHECK "Maximum memory"
6) Reboot

try and let us know

It wasn't checked to begin with.  But thanks.  Here's what I've discovered:  DDR3-2 and DDR3-1 aren't reading the RAM I place in them.  These are the first two slots from the left facing the board.  However, DDR3-4 and DDR3-3 are working fine.  I am using 1 dual-channel stick and 1 ddr3 stick in the first two slots and the same in the last two slots.  I have tested both the dual channel and the sd Ram and all work, but not in the first two slots that I mentioned.  Do I have a defective board, or can these first two slots be turned on?  And, if YES, how do I do it?
Thank you for your assistance and your time.  I appreciate it very much.
Bill

Dont you just love people who come on just to post there issue, find a solution to a problem that many others are having and don't come back to offer the advise in how they resolved it!?

I've only just registered here after buying a x58a ud7 board, but if i find a resolve to a problem i will come back on and update!

Glad you got your issue sorted Grimlock... if you come back on here, please share it with the rest of us.

Fully agree!

I've just sent PM to Grimlock380 about it. Let's hope he'll reply soon.
