Am I Blowing Hot Or Cool

 Gigabyte GA-F2A88xm-HD3, amd A10 6800K

Which Temps should I be watching on HWMon so my cpu is not overheating. Temperatures/Package which is currently showing 85c, 42c, 86 or TmpIN2 which is currently showing 48c, 13c, 50c, Prime 95 is running a torture test too hence the high temps. I see many questions on forums about which temp to read but never a really straight answer, one says watch CPU/Package another will say TmpIn2, is is so confusing.  I'm a newbie old retired  fart with a new setup trying to understand computers but don't want to overheat my cpu.

Also I have Easytune 6 running to compare with HWMon current temps are CPU 49c, system is 40c  again Prim 95 is still running the torture test.

Please tell me which temp to watch, TmpIN2 or CPU Package in HWMon or should I stick to thte Easytune temp? I don't know which to rely on.

Most accurate temps are delivered by BIOS.
You can check the APU heat sink with your finger and see if it s hot or not.
In any case it takes 75 Celsius by design , if not more ,with no issues for the silicon itself.

The FX chips and the Phenoms were/are to stay under 65 Celsius by design.

I wouldnt trust the readings of 3-rd party software , as in my case as well they give strange readings.
Most probable the high ones refer to the APU VRM sensor ,for which even 100 Celsius should be ok.

Thanks for replying Vezina, I understand and agree the bios temp would be considered most accurate, problem is when using a bit software for to stress test the cpu or for example converting a movie to another format which does a lot of number crunching by the time you reboot to the view the bios the temps have cooled way down ...unless I've missed something.

Have you tried Core Temp? I use Core Temp with its companion Core Temp gadget to monitor the CPUs core temperature.

I cant get temps to display in coretemp,Realtemp.  I believe there is a problem with Coretemp and some apu processors, seen similar complaints over the 'net.

On Win7 7 idling with the usual background progams running and approx 10% load on cpu HWmon TmpIN2 reading currently shows 13.c, Aida 64 also shows cpu at 13c.If I run prime 95 after a few mins Hwmon TMPIN2 shows 42c as does Aida 64.

Speccy shows temp at 80c and in the red, AMD Overdrive is nearer the readings in HWmon & Aida 64.

HWmon CPU temp /Package shows the same as Speccy, in the 80s. I assumed the computer would shut down if cpu starts overheating past the cpu max temp which is 74c according to http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-A10-Series%20A10-6800K.html

Therefore I now assume the tmpin2 in Hwmon and Aida 64 are the temps to watch ...hopefully. :-)

Coretemp is supposed to work with AMD APUs. Have you contacted the developer about your problem?
One time I found a bug in Coretemp's installer. I reported this to the developer. He replied with a workaround until the problem was corrected with the next update.

I wouldn't expect Realtemp to work since it is supposed to only work with Intel CPUs.

I have found that Core Temp, HWMonitor TMPIN2, HWMonitor Package Temperature, AIDA CPU/CORE to all show the CPU core temperature.

I found a post by someone else that found that Speccy showed a CPU temperature of 80C for their AMD A8-5500. Maybe Speccy has a problem with AMD APUs.

It looks like your temperatures are well within safe limits.
I learned the hard way when I ran a CPU at its upper limit for a long time. The CPU eventually failed.

Playing around this days with a 5800K on a different manufacturer board.
There seems to be 2 CPU readings on this one as well ,one for the package and another one and there may be a 3-rd located in the CPU area as well..
There is one insane reading for this APU package as well ,that goes to 109 Celsius during gaming ,while the other reading shows 64-70 Celsius.By finger it looks more like 65 Celsius.
As long as the performance is normal (no throttling is occurring) and the PC doesn t shut down by itself i would say it s ok.

The software readings are not calibrated.The package temp may also be the trigger for the thermal protection system.
I wouldn t worry if the system is behaving normally and the heat sink feels hot.

If no skin burns to smoke it should be ok
