internal audio recording issue

afternoon guys!

i'm hoping some people can help me out with something.

i was attempting to use audacity when i noticed that it was telling me that no audio devices were found.
at the time i was trying to record audio within the pc.

i assumed i had installed the realtek azalia 6series driver, but obviously i hadn't.

my control panel recording tab displays nothing when i right-click and select "show disabled devices".

this (after googling around) pointed to a driver issue.

before i install the driver for the realtek_azalia 6series, should i uninstall the 4 listed High Definition Audio Devices?

(Device Manager- Sound, Video and Game Controllers).

i'm not using them, as all sound output is carried via a line-out cable to my amplifier.

i just wanted to check with you guys if it's correct to uninstall that before installing the realtek_azalia 6series driver.

i'm hoping that the disabled devices issue should resolve itself once i install the above driver.

i have 1 high definition audio device (speakers) that is in use for my main analogue line-out to my amplifier.

i have another 4 high definition audio devices (hdmi) listed as working, but i am not using them.

do i disable/uninstall these but leave the one that i am using for my line-out to my amp, then install the realtek azalia 6 series driver?

i just need to make sure what to do before going ahead and possibly doing something that could cause problems.

any advice would be really appreciated guys.

Peter,
From your description, it sounds like you are running audio with generic audio drivers, instead of RealTek's Azalia driver.  

You aren't going to mess anything up by installing the manufacturers device driver.

I would leave what you have in place and install the RealTek driver over the top.

However, I would create a manual Restore Point of my own if you are concerned.  Additionally, you should have a back up solution implemented and in place which would protect you from issues any way.

right, i'll go ahead with that.
i googled system restore and it is indeed a simple thing to do.

i would leave karma, but i cannot see any interactive button to do so in your reply.
 the help menu doesn't tell, and google searches do not reveal anything

i've already tried that, it takes me to the profile page.
i can't find any applaud button there.

I did for you so he has Karma and this is what you click on.

I should point out that the Karma and Smite buttons can only be used after (if I remember correctly) you have made 10 posts on the forum.  This is to prevent abuse of the system, to encourage new members to stay active on the forum and also to stop erroneous effects by spambots and the like

i checked the audio devices tab, and mp now recognises internal audio.

..and that was with me still forgetting to create a manual restore point (although reading up on them, pc's apparently create one whenever a new driver is installed or uninstalled).
