Please some help for installing i7 4930k on GA-X79-UD3
« on: May 31, 2014, 12:32:21 pm »
Hello everyone,
i just bought the i7 4930k IVB-E CPU and the GA-X79-UD3.  I read from the gigabyte site:

  Support IVB-E CPU

(Note) Please update @BIOS to ver.2.33 and be sure to reflash this BIOS through @BIOS ver2.33.
(Note) To Support IVB-E CPU, the Intel driver must be updated in advanced.

In order to update from  @BIOS ver.2.33   i need to go to windows 7 environment. It is obviously that i cant do that!
also what <in advance> means? Does it means  that you first need to install a Sandy Bridge-E cpu so that you can flash the bios for the IB-E cpu?

Sorry but dont have any other CPU.   Can i just flash the F16 bios from Q-flash?Maybe then if i get to windows 7 environment try the Intel drivers?
This situation is a mystery story!

Thanks for all the help,in advance!

Greetings,
I think this will help.

F16 supports IVB-E CPU 4930k (yours) Rev 1.0 and 1.1 boards

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4765

@BIOS is a in OS flashing utility

@BIOS 2.33 supports win7 and 8 OS

http://www.gigabyte.com/webpage/20/images/utiltiy_atbios_uefi.pdf

You don't need @BIOS 2.33 unless you are flashing the BIOS in OS to F20 which adds support for Xenon E5 CPU's both Revs.

Does this answer your questions?

Thank you for the help!
I am not really sure if i understood.
If i dont have F16 bios at the moment and have an earlier one (havent tried to startup the computer yet in order to see which bios the mobo has), how can i flash it to F16 without OS.
And what about intel drivers?it also says <To Support IVB-E CPU, the Intel driver must be updated in advanced.>how can i do that?

You need to install drivers directly from the device manager.
After you have installed os and all other drivers, you'll see a lot of unknown devices in device manager.
Select first one, right click mouse and select update driver... Select source from your computer, location where you have downloaded and unzipped latest chipset drivers (2) from the gigabyte support page.
Update all of them one by one.

What they are saying is you have a board with the OS already installed you have to do that. They want to make sure you are using the right driver.

If you haven't install the OS it will not matter. Because there is no older driver installed. If you understand what I saying. You should be alright is you are just installing the OS for the first time.
