No USB 2.0 pendrives supported on GA-790XTA-UD4 ?
« on: March 09, 2010, 12:00:09 am »
In my new pc with the mobo from the title, I'm trying to install Windows 7 from a high-speed USB pendrive, but it takes ages to load. However, my notebook loads it pretty fast.
This led me to think that the mobo it's not using the USB 2.0 speed, no matter what I do.
I tried every port (black ones, orange ones, usb 3.0 blue ones and atx case front panel ones), and every setting in BIOS but still no luck.
What can I do?
Does Gigabyte forgot to include USB 2.0 speeds for pendrives? I wish they don't but I don't know what to think.
Any help?
Thanks in advance

Hi there, I'm running this board myself and have found no problem with the USB ports (USB install of Windows 7 64 bit was painless and pretty quick).

Could you post a few more details as to your set-up?
Are you installing onto one HDD or a Raid array?
Have you changed anything in BIOS prior to install?
Stuff like that and as much info as possible, as it could help pin down any errors.

Cheers

Maybe it's not the USB stick, but the DMA mode the hard drive is in?

How can i know if the DMA mode is on for the hard drive?

Record the BIOS startup messages via a camera and replay them slowly.
The DMA mode of the hard drives is often shown fleetingly.

Obviously disable any motherboard start-up logo first. :-)

I solved the problem and it was not because of the USB port.
The problem was that Windows 7 installation didn't recognize my SB750 SATA RAID Controller where my HDDs are, so the initial black loading screen of the W7 installation is very slow, until it lets me load the specific driver, at the screen of choosing the drive to install Windows in. After that, the SO installation got pretty fast.

Pleased that you managed to get to the bottom of your problem and that you were able to install your OS oK.

I don't want to sound critical (I'm going to anyway) but, a little more info in your original post might have helped with the problem (You can never give too much information in these situations).

Anyway, pleased that it's sorted and that the USB ports were not the problem.
