Help tweaking my overclocking setttings
« on: March 09, 2010, 08:56:41 am »
Hi Guys,

I have currently overclocked my pc, using the following hardware;

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ)  - Bios Version F10
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard
Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3
BFG GTX 260 MC OCX 896MB PCIE
1 tb Samsung F1 hard drive
500gb Western Digital hard drive
Corsair H50-1 (push / pull configuration)
Coolmaster RC1000 case
Memory card reader
Tape drive (to convert my classic songs to mp3)

I am managed to get my pc overclocked to 4GHz, however I am using AUTO settings on the Voltages.

Can you someone please help and check my settings below;

ok i can help

first your playing with fire letting the bios autodetect the QPI/VTT VoltagE  for you

As you know the memory controller is now in-die (the cpu) so as you raise the memory voltage ...YOU HAVE TO SCALE THE VTT accordingly

So 1.66 on ram is about
1.42 on QPI/VTT Voltage

Ill look over your other voltagaes and edit this post in a min

**edit** increase CPU PLL to 1.85volts

to get 222 cpu blk thats around 4.4 you would need
1. around 1.3875 CPU CORE
2. and 1.44 on VTT

However (andrew i am sorry but i have to say this to to the best advise to the gentleman) on DFI boards ( i havent messed that far yet to see of Gigabyte can do the same) you can actually play with the BOOT clock (sperate from CPU clock) in order to get it boot and RUN on less volts, I will play with this on the review

Aslo another good tip is, sinCe the memory controller is onboard, its even MORE crucual you get the ram settings correct. With my geil ram ddr3 2000,mhz I set the TRFC to 75 this slows the ram by jsut a small amount but allows you to get a few more MHZ frequency out of the CPU

Hi Gilamesh,

I will not be overclocking my cpu any higher then 4GHz, would you please advise the voltages, which I can use as a guidline and lower, so that I can drop my temps further.

bash mate, i think you may have missed some of my points, even at teh frequency you have, if you change the CPU PLL volts and change your VTT from auto to 1.42 or even 1.44 you should be able to lower your VCORE dramatically!
