GA-EX58-UD3R (FI BIOS) and i7 920 @ 3.2ghz, Vcore question
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:51:41 am »
Hi I currently have my i7 920 clocked at 3.2ghz with Turbo enabled, I have the CPU Vcore setting on "Auto" in bios and according to CPU_Z its at v1.36, Is this normal? I was wondering if I should lower it. Thanks.

never leave your vcore or VTT core on auto when overclocking.  1.36 seems excessive for that low of an overclock.  I currently have my vcore at 1.280 and am overclocked to 4.2GHz.  I say lower it and test for stability.

Thanks I manually adjusted vcore to 1.28v in bios but I noticed in CPU-Z it reads 1.216v under load now and 1.248v during Idle? Also what should I have the VTT core set at? Thanks.

Full load vcore (Prime95):

What is your vtt currently at?  I have mine at 1.2750v.  Don't go off of my settings though.  Maybe you can use them as a base, and then test for stability using Prime95 or LinX and go from there.  I Prefer prime.  Be aware of how hot your CPU will get, so a good cooler is defiantly going to be needed.

I presume this is a D0 stepping 920? on auto setting it defaults to around 1.21 volts on vcore, try changing that slightly

NOTE if you HAVE HIGH frequency ram and it needs 1.65 volts on the RAM YOU CANNOT leave you VTT ON AUTO...... YOU MUST scale the VTT accordingly 1.65 vdimm = 1.41 on VTT

Sorry for the caps, but this MUST be highlighted

Yep its a D0 920 stepping and my ram is rated 1.65v volts, its a Corsair 6GB kit (3x2gb) model# is TR3X6G1600C9 ,How can I tell what my current VTT is at? EasyTune and CPU-Z dont seem to show this? and EasyTune is currently showing 1.584V for my RAM (ram voltage is also set on Auto in bios), what math is used to calculate what VTT should be set at? Is there a good Overclock guide out there I could view that might help? Thanks again.

I was not aware of that gilgamesh.  I gave you applause for that :)  Can you elaborate on exactly what the scaling is?  Is there an equation used to represent this scaling between VTT and DIMM??

Thanks
