GA-Z97MX Gaming 5 (rev. 1.0) booting from PCIe
« on: November 20, 2014, 08:58:14 pm »
Hi guys,

I have a new system with that motherboard and a Samsung XP941 256GB SSD.
I've installed F5B BIOS version to support the M.2 booting but it seems like I can only boot from the device when I use the built-in M.2 slot.
I have an adapter with heatsink using PCIe X4 and when I use I can only see the disk when I installed the windows but not able to boot from it

any ideas ?

Cheers
Elad

When you go into bios and then boot menu does it give you the option to boot from that device?

Have you contacted gigabyte support?. It might be that the add on card you are using isn't able to been seen as a boot device. Or the slot doesn't have that feature. Checking to see if can be solved or absic might drop in im sure he would know.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Autotech but I have to say that I am not sure about this and I too, will do some digging.

That said, something is nagging away at the back of my mind regarding M.2 cards and not being able to boot if used in a PCIe adaptor.

I am using a Plextor M.2 card in my own Z97X-UD5H build as my main drive, but that is in the M.2 slot on the motherboard and I am wondering why you don't want to use this slot on your own board if it works.

More questions. Whay operating system are you using?
When you go to boot order in bios are you on UEFI or legacy it should be towards the bottom under windows 8 features.

eladle,

autotech and absic are much more knowledgeable than I in this matter for sure.  I think this will likely come down to BIOS revision and compatibility of the host adapter being used. Right combination and 4x slot.  Hope you get it figured out.

Have you tried the F6d Beta BIOS that is available over at TweakTown here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios.html ?
