Prime95 Immediate shutdown/reboot

Prime95 Immediate shutdown/reboot

Having an awful time finding information on the proper settings to (hopefully) fix this problem and don't want to blindly crank on the bios settings without some clue of what to do.

Motherboard is a GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK, rev 1.0, processor is an Intel i7-4790K.

Memory is Kingston HyperX pn HX318C10FWK2/16, 2-8gbyte sticks, 16 gbyte total. Corsair H105 liquid cooler.

No graphics card yet, didn't want to hit that rabbit hole until everything else was rock solid.

When attempting to run Prime 95 the system shuts down and reboots almost immediately, i.e. less than 2 seconds.

When running the Intel EXtreme tuning utility the system will run at full stress load for at least an hour with no problems, max CPU core temps about 60 deg C. But, if I try to run the internal Benchmark portion of that utility the system shuts down and immediately reboots. I can also run

Please note that I can run memTest 86+ v5.01 for hours with no problem.

All mother board settings are at "Auto" except for  CPU_OPT fan which I'm using at full speed for my water cooler.

I originally tried this with the Windows Technical Release ( Win10) and the Gigabyte utilities won't do a clean install, although they will run. But, just to be safe I installed a copy of Win8 Pro and got exactly the same behavior, no difference at all.

I've heard a rumor that Prime95 is toxic on this processor, but can't find any formal acknowledgement anywhere.

I know that there's some gifted people on here, and I hope someone can give me hand.

Thanks.

You could try the benchmarking and OC part of the forum they might be able to help better over there.  ;D

Plus I don't know if this will help: http://superuser.com/questions/814171/putting-i7-4790k-under-full-load-causes-triggers-a-hard-reset-computer-shuts-do

I can say it isn't your processor. I have the same one and it runs just fine on mine.  So at least that rules out the CPU. Normally don't do that type of test but I saw this thread and ran it just to see if it was the CPU.
