RAM speed set to 1333Mhz

RAM speed set to 1333Mhz
« on: January 08, 2015, 04:45:39 pm »
I have just installed a AMD A6 7400K into a GD-F2A78M-D3H motherboard and the bios setting for the ram is 1333Mhz where as the APU is rated for 1866 and the memory I bought is 1866.

I am not sure if this is still the same problem as for the AM3 chips.

So why has the correct memory speed not been set?

Thanks
Rob.

Memory generally comes with conservative timing recommendations in the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) ROM, to ensure basic functionality on all systems. If you install a 1866MHz speed kit, it doesn't run at that speed automatically.

A few things to remember about setting up memory.
1) Memory Clock
2) DRAM Timings
3) DRAM Voltage

You can set these manually or enable an eXtreme Memory Profile (XMP) (page 38 of mobo rev.3 manual).
XMP profiles are commonly used as it sets all three parameters listed above to the rated specifications.
XMP profiles are [Disabled] by default in the BIOS.
1) GA-Z97X-Gaming 7, G3258,
2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

This is usually a problem when the ram speed is manually fixed to a certain speed - change in bios to *auto* settings and it should work.
