Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK 4790K Stability

Hi, I have just finished building my new PC based on the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK with a 4790K. However I have been having stability issues with the system. I have searched on-line and found many issues reported on this motherboard when using it with a 4790K particularly with the VCORE being too high.
 
Following advise on-line I have updated my BIOS to the latest version F6 and also turned off Turbo Boost. This has made the system much more stable, however when the CPU is under high load with Turbo Boost on it crash's, I would like the extra that turbo boost provides.
 
Does any one have any experience with this and the best settings for use in the BIOS to improve stability?
 
I am not looking to over-clock, I purchased this mother board for stability reasons so wish to have settings that reflect this.
 
NB: I would stress the crashing issue is the system immediately restarts, no warning and no indication of overheating (CPU fan doesn't even speed up). This crash is to quick to take readings. RAM & PSU have been tested and can not find fault.

I don't have this motherboard but, have you tried the F7g beta BIOS that is available over at TweakTown here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios.html to see if that helps improve things?

Hi dmdilks, Sorry this crash is so immediate there is no BSOD thus no error to check from Windows OS.

Can you disable "Automatic System Restart" on Advanced Tab of Advanced System Settings.  This may yield more information since nothing is being captured in the Event Viewer.

I have made this change however it has not made a difference to the system. It has been running stable since I disabled Turbo Boost several weeks ago.

I have the Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK and the I7 4790K  (Overheating and Unstable)
I battled for over 5 months, Gigabyte gave me no support and supplier refused to take back the parts as one blamed CPU and the other Blamed the board. As this was my first Gigabyte purchase it will also be  my last Gigabyte product due to the total lack of support I received when contacting Gigabyte.

But anyway

Here is the solution
I eventually found. although i wasn't getting BSOD,  The crashing is probably due to the CPU overheating. as it runs very quickly without much load to over 90 degrees.. I had to disable turbo boost as well to at least get some kind of stability.

The example provided will not work for this board (as Gigabyte just doesn't allow Intel's software to interact properly with the Intel chipset ....  #^&*% Gigabyte at its finest )

I used :

Turbo Boost Power Max : 88.000W
Turbo Boost Short Power Max 110W
Processor Current Limit 105.A
Turbo Boost Power Time Windows 8.0 secs


I don't know what effect this has on performance I haven't noticed a decrease in performance but CPU heat is stable and so is my system

Thank for this, I will give this a try when I have some free time.

As a temporary measure (which I can improve on based on you advise) is with Turbo Boost enabled by setting the VCORE to 1.18v.
I decided this based on a video posted on LinusTech Tips forums http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/292645-gigabyte-ga-z97x-ud5h-bk-4790k-stability/?p=4100506 and some further research

I ran 3DMARK to check it works fine, I don't know if it performed as well as it should or not but here a link to it:

I too had some overclocking stability problems, so I watched Prokon's video on this board and with this cpu and from this used the following settings as per movie......expect I lowered some of the values to hopefully increase stability.

vcore 1.3V, cpu frequency to 4.5 on all cores, memory to 2133 and the rest as per movie (without step down voltage).  I have run blender, cinebenchr15 and ixtu (cpu and memory) benchmarks with good results and no crashes or reboots.
