Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H (V1.0) 4790K Stability

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H (V1.0) 4790K Stability
« on: January 18, 2015, 04:02:25 pm »
Had issues with this on F5 BIOS switching off after logging on to windows.  Upgraded to F8 and it is fine now - doesn't turn off after login.

The machine will go to sleep but not come out of sleep - comes out of hibernate okay though.  I have all the latest drivers installed.

Any ideas?  No BSOD, USB mouse comes on and fans spin up but screen stays in standby.  Think it is hardware not Windows related.

Win 7 Ult x64 BIOS F8

Ran memtest +86 for a full pass and no issues.

It is most likely your SSD in raid that is cause the sleep problem Even single SSD has problems coming out of sleep.

Any solutions???  Is it a BIOS issue?  I used the GA-Z77X-UD5H for years with a couple of OCZ SSD's for booting with no issues!!

Hi there,

I am running this board with a 4770k chip and have not encountered any stability issues. That said I am running with the latest F9f beta BIOS available over at TweakTown here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios.html

There are known issues with certain SSD's and the Z87/97 chipset not playing nicely. I have an OCZ Vertex 2 that I can no longer have attached to my PC as it randomly vanishes at BOOT and/or hangs the system completely. Its an issue with a specific sandforce controller found in Vertex 2 and other ssd's of that time not being fully Intel Compliant. However, I can use the same SSD if I use it as a hotswap drive.  :o (You might want to check out this thread: http://forums.hexus.net/storage/290085-z87-motherboards-ssds.html over at Hexus which goes into a bit more detail and has more links)

I do not use sleep or hibernate either as my PC is either working or it isn't. With the faster BOOT times offered using SSD's I can't see the point of worrying about the 10 seconds or so that it takes to start from cold.

I have posted a review of this motherboard and my hardware here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=14703.0 which may be of interest.

okay - on new BOIS F9f now.

Only use sleep for TV card so programs get recorded!!

PCI express TV card used to come out of sleep fine and record.  Now it takes time to initialise on the new board?  Are there any BIOS settings to tweak?
