Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 with AMD FX-9370 - No Post

So long story short, I built the machine in my signature.  It worked great for about a day then when I came back from lunch the next day, I saw it was off.  I hit the power button.  nadda.  I unplugged the PSU, replugged and hit the power switch.  I held it in and the system fans came on, the cpu cooler was running and the Blue Ray burner light like it shoudl when provided with initial power.   No video display, no MB beeps.

I tried the following in troubleshooting:

Reseated all peripherals
Re plugged all MB connectors
Tested with 1 stick of ram  (No video)
Tested with no sticks of ram  (No beeps)
Cleared bios at MB terminal pins
Pulled cmos battery for 10 minutes
Swapped Video card for known good card
Swapped monitor for known good monitor

All provided the same results.

I RMA'd the MB and installed new MB
Reinstalled all peripherals/cables
Checked CPU for any burnt/bent pins (none)
Powered on system (same result.  No video, no beeps)

While I find it hard to believe I can get 2 bad MB's in a row, I suppose it's possible

I put my finger on the cpu (applied power briefly prior to putting cooler on) and it began to heat up so I know it is getting power.

My next step is to RMA the cpu unless anyone has any additional troubleshooting options.

Thanks in advance or your help.  I think I covered the configuration in my signature and described the issue and my troubleshooting to date well enough, but if you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask.  I really don't want to wait yet another week for an RMA'd cpu.

So it seems, based on this article http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=2515.0 that this is problematic of the AM3 cpu. 

It's pretty frustrating that they are not more forthright about the issue. 

So I guess my options are to get a new cpu and OC it, buy 1333 mhz memory and return mine or find a cpu that will fit my mb and take advantage of the 1600 mhz memory.

Any suggestions on a CPU that would be a good replacement?

I believe that running a FX-9370 without a heatsink at all would permanently damage the CPU within seconds. I would think it would be dead in a matter of seconds.

That may have been possible 10 years ago with a Pentium 4 or Celeron.

The FX-9370 will support 1866 memory. http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-9370.html

What version board are you running? You need a 3.0 version board to run that CPU. Plus you need bios version FCh on that board too.

Thanks for the heads up on the power with no cooler.  I won't be doing that in the future.  I didn't know of any other way to test the processor without a pinout for voltages or another similar system.

I did RMA the cpu and replaced it with a 9590 as the prices were the same.  The new process or is installed and has been up for 2 days now non-stop.  The only issue I had was that it was only running at 4 Ghz, but a bios update and it is happily running at 4.7 (non-turbo boost mode).

Thanks for all the help.  I did notice an anomaly with the MB, but I'll search the forum before I post up about that.

The only thing I did like about those CPU was the temp on them. Yes they run cool enough but temp was all over the place no matter what heatsink and fan I used.

I am actually running this and it kept that chip and my new one, very cool.
