Random shutdown in a hackintosh

Random shutdown in a hackintosh

Hi,

I have a three year old Hackintosh that until last week was the picture of stability. I moved the machine from the office to the living room to work, when I moved it back and plugged it in again it began acting strangely.

I am using a Gigabyte Motherboard, it's my first home built computer. I do not know how to diagnose and solve difficult hardware issues. If I cannot fix it with a reinstall, I am a little stuck.

Hardware.

Gigabyte Z68 XP UD3 with an SSD installed in the slot. This drive has been running 10.6.8
It has a Corsair Power supply and a HD 6870 graphics card.

As it boots up it will power down at random times, sometimes getting a few seconds into the boot, sometimes shutting down almost instantly. Occasionally the USB will fail to load most of the time the mouse lights up before the shutdown.

It seems a little too random for it to be a software problem, I have also not changed anything except where it's plugged in.

How would I test the components or get a better idea of where my issue lies?

Thanks, I can really use some help on this one.

Take it apart and reseat ram, video card and so on. Not the CPU. Make sure fan is attached good to CPU. If this fixes it then good if not then tear it all way down even the CPU and reseat it all. I have had that happen and it was the ram one time came a bit loose the other time the cpu came out just enough it would run but shut down after 20 to 30 minutes.
