Not booting GA-X58A-UD3R V1.6
« on: February 13, 2015, 01:08:57 am »
Morning all,

I recently purchased a Intel i7 990x and went about replacing my old CPU with this one.

I assumed everything would be ok and it would boot fine... this is far from the case.

any help would really be appreciated

Once the power is turned on the computer 'starts' it doesnt make it to bios from what I assume and displays no out put to the monitor. THere are no beeps what so ever at anystage of the startup and I have 4 led phase lights which are on constant throughout and at never stage flash

Im unable to find any information on what precisely the phase lights mean - from bottom to top they are green, green, orange, red.

I have unplugged all non-essential hardware/ram and currently have a single ram stick in a white slot. no dvd/secondary HDD are connected - all this to no avail.

Any help would be really appreciated, let me know if any other information is needed

- dan

What bios are you running? Did you put back in the other CPU to make sure it would boot again? You need FF bios to run a 6 core CPU.

Not  sure of my bios version, sorry - and im guessing this isnt something I can check at this stage.

Very useful info thanks I was totoally unaware I needed a different bios version to run 6 core. Im yet to swap back to my previous cpu, that was my plan for today after reading any advice from forum posters.

appreciated thanks

Thanks for the link dmdilks

Ive now put the old cpu back in and it boots to windows fine. Ive never downloaded and installed a new bios before.. if I download FF will my stystem still run on my existing i7-920 do you know please? (4 core)

or once i download and install the new bios this means it will only be compatible with 6 core cpus...?

should I just download FK? is it the same as service patches for software - the more recent supports all changes made in each release..?

I would just go with FI. This is from the book just read what it is telling you to do page 70.

Updating the BIOS with the Q-Flash Utility
A. Before You Begin
1. From GIGABYTE's website, download the latest compressed BIOS update file that matches your motherboard model.
2. Extract the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g. X58AUD3R.f1) to your floppy disk, USB flash drive, or hard drive. Note: The USB flash drive or hard drive must use FAT32/16/12 file system.
3. Restart the system. During the POST, press the <End> key to enter Q-Flash. Note: You can access Q-Flash by either pressing the <End> key during the POST or pressing the <F8> key in BIOS Setup. However, if the BIOS update file is saved to a hard drive in RAID/AHCI mode or a hard drive attached to an independent IDE/SATA controller, use the <End> key during the POST to access Q-Flash.

Put it on a USB flash drive

Once the bios is done what I do is shut the computer and unplug the power then clear the cmos and pull the battery. What about a minute and  move the jump back for the cmos and put the battery back in reboot.

Enter BIOS Setup. Select Load Optimized Defaults and press <Enter> to load BIOS defaults. Reboot go back into bios then set up everything backup again plus time & date too. Make sure the computer boots back into windows first before you swap out CPU's.
