GA-X99-Gaming 5 Blue screen and sound issues
« on: March 21, 2015, 07:42:56 am »
Hi people,
I've just built this system last week, and have constant blue screen crash everytime computer goes into sleep/ idle mode. I did enter bios and enable 'Power loading', in order to try prevent the sleep/ idle mode as a band aid solution, but it hasn't worked. This is my main concern, can't be good for computer crashing everytime I leave it idle, the problem doesn't occur if computer is in use.
I was thinking of turning the monitor power saver off also, so it remains on, perhaps creating more draw on GPU, in turn drawing more power from PSU?!

Also I'm using the onboard sound, which sounds great to me, has come a long way since my X58 motherboard. However everytime I start computer, or it restarts or CRASHES after idle, the only way I can get the sound working through my 2.1 speaker set up is to enter the supplied 'Sound Blaster' app and switch it back and forth from headphones to speakers. I'm using jack 'K' on rear I/O.

Bios is F8 (latest one)
Sound Blaster driver is 1.03.11 (latest one)
Only other influencing factor I can see is PSU, which is a BitFenix Fury 750G (750watt), which is Haswell certified.
Oh and everything is run at stock speeds, i7 5820k cpu and Kingston hyperX 2133mhz 4x4gb, hd6950 2gb gpu, 2 OCZ ssds.

Any suggestions for either problem?
Cheers

I don't put my computers into sleep mode ever. But I was still getting a BSOD. I haven't got a BSOD for some times now. Maybe go back to a old driver. They have done changes on on their drivers on the last two updates. I can't run them.

This what I get when look at the BSOd report.

atikmdag.sys   atikmdag.sys+28ece   fffff880`0f868000   fffff880`10778000   0x00f10000   0x53508a3c   ATI Radeon Family   ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver   8.01.01.1390   Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.   C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys

The sound that is another problem. I don't know what to tell you on that. Till you fix the video problem that could have something to do with it.

Hi, so from what you've got there looks like GPU issue, I've already reformatted since building it last week, and originally I recall it saying 'Raptr' somewhere in the error code, I wasn't sure at the start where that came from, till I re d'loaded the AMD drivers for GPU again, which is when I saw it was part of AMD Gamers App, so I made sure it wasn't part of the install second time around.
Today I also went to control panel/power management, and disabled 'Windows' sleep mode and screen power saver, but this hasn't helped either.
You could still be right about GPU driver, just seems odd that doesn't happen while I'm on computer, using net, gaming etc, only happens while idle.
Today is first day since reinstall, and while it did take longer to BSOD, the error message left me nothing I could understand. I did try to copy paste it to show Gagabyte support, but it wouldn't let me.
man it just sux $2000 for a tower which crashes all the time, never had this with the old X58.

This were I got my BSOD program from just make sure that nothing comes with it. I can't remember when I downloaded it that it just downloaded that program. If you know what I mean is sometimes you get other programs that come with some of these free programs.

Still no good, same BS errors, and sound issue.
I've however found out that the BS error code of '124' is a hardware malfunction, so will start checking all memory, gpu etc, I know all have current drivers, so unless not seated properly or is malfunctioning?

I'm also wandering if my problem with the onboard sound may be causing the '124' hardware error BS?!

I did give Gigabyte my BS error message, to see if they could help narrow it down for me, but got hand balled to go ask MS, which I tried, but they're a pain in the ##$%@!, they supply no means of email contact, even after I create a account, have to talk on phone, lol good luck relaying a BS error via phone! >:(

Still no joy, have put that Nirsoft bluescreen viewer on, but don't understand the information on it. Will have to take computer to store I bought components from to check it out, but they have about a 2-3 week wait.
Tried attaching BSOD crash files, perhaps someone knows what it is, other than hardware error?

Oh, forgot to mention sound now works each time I start up, but only because I've left it on 'headphones', in the Sound Blaster app, if I have it on 'speakers' I have to switch it back and forth to get sound. And yet I'm using audio port 'K', as they tell you to use in mobo manual.?!
Could this be the defective hardware causing the BSOD crap?!

By what I'm reading it could be your hard drive or SSD.

Hmm really ok, I started out with 2 OCZ Arc100 ssds, a 240gb which is still in use for the OS, and a 480gb  which failed in the 2nd week of use, they replaced it for me with a Samsung Evo850. I've had the OCZ 'SSD Guru' app crash on me in the last couple of days also, which is a app for monitoring the ssd. Perhaps the OCZ Guru app is conflicting with the Samsung Magician ssd app?
I appreciate your input, cause all the BSOD codes are just random codes to me, I have no understanding of it at all.
Is there a official Microsoft link with all the codes or something?
Cheers.

Thanks for your input so far dmdilks, topic had a reasonable amount of views given the short period it's been up, was hoping for more input from others.
Well motherboard has been in the service dept of the store I purchased it from. Tech was in agreement that the onboard sound was faulty, and as it was the method of sound delivery I was relying on, will be swapping it out for a different brand of motherboard.
I haven't got a official answer on the BSOD issue yet, it was the main reason for being taken to the service dept. They tested over a number of days CPU, Memory, GPU etc, and struggled to come up with a answer. Last time I spoke with him he was leaning towards GPU drivers, which was the latest 14.? ATI driver. Mind you in the 15 years or so I've been playing around with computers, whilst GPU drivers have on occasion not performed well, or even caused instability, i've never had BSOD due to them.
Overall I'm pretty dissatisfied with the quality of all the leading suppliers, as I've been checking other forums, and there's alot of instability issues with all brands. I guess that's what happens when you get in early on new tech, with suppliers rushing to get products on shelves, rather than properly qc and testing before release.
Anyway, should have computer back early this coming week, and hope I have better luck this time round.
Good luck to everyone still having issues. :P

My BSOD was from the GPU driver. I run a 39" LED TV. I'm stuck on a driver that is almost a year old. If update to newer driver the text is really bad. But changing video cards I have got the driver working.

Because I haven't had a BSOD for almost two months. Yes these X99 board are having their problem. I think they rush them out to quick so people could use DDR4 memory.
