No power to Motherboard but PSU is tested and working.

Hi all,

This is my first post on here and on reading through, it is absolutely full of great information but I can't find anything related to my issue.

I'm building a gaming tower for my son, nothing too powerful just something to start him off.
I have a Gigabyte GA-F2A58M-HD2 motherboard with an AMD A8-6600 Series CPU/ or APU maybe, also I just bought an Alpine 700w swithching mode PSU. I have bridged the green and one of the black wires on the 24pin power connector to test it, and the fan comes on in the PSU indicating that it works but when I fit all the connections to where they should go nothing seems to work, no LED lights come on, I don't hear any noises of any kind. I'm now fearing the worst, that I may have fried the motherboard.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks, Martin.

On further inspection I've noticed that when I first connect the power lead to the PSU and turn the switch on the PSU to on, all system lights flash for a split second and then nothing.
