SLOW boot time with new ATI 5770 on GA-73PVM-S2
« on: March 24, 2010, 04:17:06 pm »
Hi there.

I just got a new graphic card for my pc, an ATI 5770. But when I start up my pc it takes like 15-20 seconds befor the first, black bios screen comes (dont know what to call it but its the first screen you see when you turn on your pc) And the fan on the 5770 goes to full speed, but slows down again when the bios screen comes

I've tried the graphic card on my other pc, but there its no problem. And when I remove the 5770 from my GA-73PVM-S2 and just boot with onboard graphic card, it start up at a normal time.

Anyone know what my problem may be?

Sorry for (very) bad english.

Hi there,

I don't think there is really a problem although it is annoying.

I have a Sapphire 4850x2 Graphics Card running on an AMD platform (GA-790XTA-UD4) and it does exactly the same and has done on 3 different Gigabyte motherboards and with different CPU's.

As a matter of interest what Motherboard is in your other PC that you tried?

Hm, I`m not really sure. It's an old board for AMD 939. I can find it out in a couple of hours, so come back tomorrow and I will have the name for you:)

Her you go:
Motherboard
Ecs 482-m
http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=723&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=52&LanID=9

Prossessor:
AMD 3700+

graphic card
EAH5770/2DIS/1GD5/V2
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=iidCxhgPOMl5Zs9R&templete=2

BTW:
What chipset is it on the cards you tried?
On my GA-73PVM-S2 there's a chipset from Nvidia
On Ecs 482-m there's one from ATI.
I was thinking that it could be a problem to have a new ATI graphic card on a motherboard with Nvidia chipset, but I don't know

Thanks for that,

Interesting to see that it is not a gigabyte board, so I guess it must be something to do with the Gigabyte BIOS. I have noticed that Gigabyte boards are a little slower to post and boot than some other manufacturers but, as they are generally very reliable I have always accepted this.

The most annoying thing is that I bought a SSD disk at the same time to get a FASTER boot to windows, but now its slower then ever:(

Did you see my question in the last post? I modified the post so I'm not sure if you saw it.

Sorry I didn't see your original question regarding SSD problem. Is it sorted now or are you still having issues?

No no no no......hehehehe

Read replay 8 again.

You told me you have tried your graphic card on three different motherboards. I wonder what chipset that are on those boards.

Thanks for all answers!:)
