GA-H61M-USB3-B3 F11 on IDE Mode

Good day forumers! I just want to know why my motherboard should be configured to IDE mode rather than AHCI mode to start the operating system even if my hard disk drive is connected thru a SATA Port.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H61M-USB3-B3 F11 BIOS
Hard Disk Drive: 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA 3.0 @ 7200rpm

When I chose AHCI, it says 'Missing operating system.'

google  ahci mode in windows. You can change it in windows or you can change it in bios then format hard drive to get it to work. I have done it the windows way then changed bios and it works pretty good.
