Problem turning off CSM support in BIOS
« on: July 06, 2015, 11:08:19 am »
I have been having major problems installing Windows 8.1 64bit on my new built computer.

My current problem is that if I go into the Gigabyte bios and set "Windows 8 features" to "Windows 8" and set CSM support to "never" (to support UEFI Boot process only) when I save, exit and return to the bios CSM support has gone back to "always". Tried selecting "load optimized defaults" and trying again but the same thing happens.
I have read that if the graphics adapter being used to boot the system doesn't have UEFI GOP support it will revert but surely my Radeon r9 270x does have UEFI support?

If it helps my components are Gigabyte h97m-d3h mobo, intel i3-4170, sapphire radeon r9 270x, 2x4gb g.skill ddr3 1600 ram, 1tb seagate hdd, samsung dvd writer, antec classic truepower 550w psu, corsair 200r case.

Thanks in advance

There might be a switch on your card that needs to be toggled.

Dual Firmware Support The card ships configured for systems using legacy BIOS by default; for newer systems with UEFI, a button on the surface of the card enables UEFI support, allowing you to take advantage of features exposed by UEFI firmware, including Windows 8 Secure Boot as well as faster wake-from-sleep and boot-up times

Not sure about your specific model

Turned out the problems I was having (which got worse) were due to faulty RAM.

Replaced the RAM and everything is now fine.
