Intel G3258 + Windows 10 needs a Bios update
« on: July 30, 2015, 02:37:05 pm »
Can we please get some confirmation from Gigabyte that BIOS updates are being worked on for this issue.

Basically it is impossible to install Windows 10 on any system using an Intel G3258 unless you disable 1 core which is not a solution or you have a Z series motherboard (and not all of those work either)

ASRock have already nailed the problem and have said they will be rolling out BIOS updates to all affected motherboards in the next few days.

Can we get some info on this please Gigabyte?

Yes, this is a major problem. If we can get a response from gigabyte, will be working on this problem? There are other companies that have solved the problem, so I would like to know as soon as possible.

ASRock are the only people to have released a new BIOS and Intel/Microsoft don't seem to be fixing the issue any time soon. Please Gigabyte.

I bought a new graphics that supports full Feature Level 12_0 as you can get.  I want to move on to Win 10 for that reason. I will be forced to move to another company, if they not fixed this.

Guys,
To ensure visibility with Gigabyte, you need to contact support and open a case directly.  Support does not monitor posts here.

also, i have registered a tech support ticket as well, just minutes ago. everyone else, PLEASE do so!

I contacted Gigabyte through a support ticket and they replied today:

"Dear customer,

Please temporary disable one core in bios to work with Win10 our engineering dept is looking into this issue, once new bios available will post on gigabyte website for update. Please check back on our website later.

Best regards,

Gigabyte technical support team."

So hopefully that pretty much confirms that they're working on the issue. However, I have found a fix.

1) Disable one core in the BIOS.

2) Install Windows 10

3) Boot up with one core and go to C:/Windows/System32/ and delete the file "mcupdate_genuineintel.dll" - you will need to use a registry tweak (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/) that allows you to take ownership of this file.

4) Once you've deleted this file, reboot and enable your second core in the BIOS. Windows 10 should now boot and work perfectly.

I've running a Gigabyte GA-H81M-H board with my G3258 now overclocked at 4.2GHz and it's working. Hope this helps.
