Have this old computer with a Q9650 cpu, looking to speed things up and get another year out of it. My question is can I run a Mushkin Enhanced ECO2 2.5" 512GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MKNSSDEC512GB on this machine?
If so do I need to buy anything to make it work, can I use the SSD as a boot drive.

                                                                      Thanks Z

Yes and Yes.  The drive will operate at up to 3GBs max connected to ICH10R.  The drive can be used again on a 6GBs controller when you move to a new MB.

Thanks for the Info, looking forward to trying one out. What does it mean when you say connected to ICH10R, is this a internal usb connector?

He is just telling you that the drive will connect to Intel chip-set. You have 6 sata Intel ports and 2 sata Marvell ports.
