Z68x-UD4-B3 Intel XMP Ram not running at 1600mhz
« on: February 05, 2016, 11:25:29 pm »
Hi peeps,

as above, I have a gigabyte Z68x-UD4-B3 with an i5 2400 which I have flashed to the latest UEFI bios U1e.

this is because i have a 3570K on the way and would like to overclock it.

I have a problem though, and that is when I set the RAM (DDR3 1600) to use the XMP profile it will show it is set to 1600Mhz but show the RAM frequency next to it as 1333mhz. In the system, it runs as 1333mhz, confirmed by CPUz.

Nothing I do can make the RAM run at 1600Mhz. I have tried to manually set the RAM multi too but it will say it is set to 16x but still runs as 1333mhz.

Is this a bug with this BIOS? or is there a fix?

thanks,

Because the CPU you are using will only support 1066/1333 memory. The new will support the 1600 and you didn't have to go with the UEFI bios to run that CPU. I have a GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 board and I'm running a i5-3570K.

thats  great to know, but how come it was supported at DDR3 1600mhz speeds under the previous BIOS?

also i went with UEFI bios as i want to overclock- i have seen that the multiplier is locked even on K chips with AMI bios for Ivybridge.

ok to update, i have installed the 3570K and set the RAM to use XMP profile, but again it is running at DDR3 1333 speeds instead of DDR3 1600mhz.

I am not overly bothered but I am disappointed that to overclock I can't have my RAM running at its intended speed.

I would think this is a BIOS bug.

I would think this is a BIOS bug.

There was a lot of people that had many problems with this UEFI bios. The board was not really made for it. You might run in to other problems too.

part of me is thinking i may go back to F9 bios and sell the 3570K, then buy a i5 2500K instead.
