Hi there!
I've got the new cells. After replacement my laptop totally ignores battery presence.
The charge controller has a TI BQ20Z45 chip onboard. This little bastard remembers everything that happens to your battery and if you disconnect all the cells, it sets a FAILURE flag in internal memory and prevents battery from charge and discharge forever. Some people try to reset this flag with special hardware, but the access to internal memory requires a password. All manufacturers do this.
So, use your laptop with original battery while you can. Ad if you can't, no one cares. Good luck!
