Memory speed issues

afternoon all, this is my first post after a bit of searching but i have been unable to find an answer. I have recently built a new PC running Intel i5 6500, 8GB of 3000MHz ram (Corsair vengeance) and a gigabyte Z170-HDP3 motherboard.

Long story short my memory is only running at 2133MHz instead of the rated 3000MHz, i have updated to bios F5 but im completely unable to load the computer running XMP, as soon as XMP is enabled the system fails to boot until i turn it off.

Is there something i am missing or is Gigabyte yet to fix the bugs in the motherboard?

The thing is I have said this many times. If you memory doesn't support XMP it will not work in XMP mode you will have to manually set the memory. 

This is from the book:

Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) (Note 2)
Allows the BIOS to read the SPD data on XMP memory module(s) to enhance memory performance when enabled.

(Note 2) This item is present only when you install a CPU and a memory module that support this feature.

I'm pretty sure my memory does support XMP, though I have manually adjusted the speed and voltage in the bios settings but again I get boot failure until I adjust it back to default.

I just wonder if I am doing something wrong? Or is this a bios issue?

I know people have got the memory to at the speeds of the memory. But there is a lot people that can't no matter what they have tried. I could get 2400 to run at 2400 without errors.

This is just me but I don't waste my time on trying to run faster memory. You really not going to see a performance boost. Believe it or not you will lose some speed. I just run at what the CPU will support.

Thanks for your comments, I think your right and I will take your advice, I have already spent too much time trying to get this to work than its actually worth.

I had the same problem.  If gaming, memory speed does have a significant impact.

Did you select xmp through the bios or via the AppCenter utility?

My RAM is rated for 3000 but would fail to boot at anything over 2133.  I selected xmp through the bios and got it to run stable at 2666. Still can't reach the rated 3000 with failure to boot issues.

I hope it's just a bios issue and F7 fixes it.

I'm sorry to have to break it to you in a PC the faster memory doesn't help you. In a server setup yes you get the speed boost. All this is a selling point for the memory companies. Plus once you get to a point how much memory you need too here is a couple of links to help.

Hello,

You memory kit timings at 3000Mhz, are they 15-17-17-35?
Run the XMP but manually change those to 16-18-18-36.

tCL = 16
tRP = 18
tRCD =18
tRAS = 36

Some CPUs cannot run CL 15 at 3000Mhz.
