GA X99 UD5 WIFI - Turn on, reset twice, and finally load OS
« on: April 07, 2016, 11:30:51 pm »
Hi there,

I just got my new intel setup about 3 days ago and after getting everything up and running, I'm having some headache with the boot process. I tried searching here, and have seen some similar problems with boot in X99 but not quite the same.

Basically the system turns on normal, full logo pop's up with bios options, etc, and when seems to start loading windows the system restarts, normally twice, before finally load windows.

After starting Windows, all completely normal, with overclock or not, playing games, rendering in cinema 4D, after effects and premiere pro... all perfect except from this annoying bot problem.

My system:

Windows 10 Pro 64bit
Intel Core i7-5820K, @4000 MHz (40 x 100)
Gigabyte GA-X99-UD5 WiFi BIOS F21
64GB DDR4-2400 Crucial BLS8G4D240FSA.M16FAD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN 6GB
Dell 3007WFP  [30" LCD]  (YW2587BJG184)
SyncMaster S24A300B /S24A350B (Digital) [NoDB]  (H9XB700670)
NVMe SAMSUNG MZVPV256  (256 GB, PCI-E 3.0 x4)
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB  (500 GB, SATA-III)
ST3500320AS  (500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
WDC WD5000AADS-00S9B0  (500 GB, SATA-II)
PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-221L
CORSAIR RM650 PSU
CORSAIR H80i With 2x SP120 Quiet Edition

I tried removing everything, running only the exceptional to boot the system, but still the same...
Also, if I only restart the system, its all normal, the problem it's only when you turn off and turn on.
Any idea what could be??

Many thanks in advance!

How did you install windows? Did you use the UEFI and with the other OS set to 8/10 and with the CSM disabled. Was this clean install or a upgrade?

Plus looking at the PSU and I don't really get into this because I feel the PSU thing is a little over rated. But you are over OC-ing and that card can suck up 38a to 42a a lone. Does it do it without the OC?

Hi mate, thanks for your reply!

The last one was using a DVD, but I tried at least 3 times with an USB stick, UEFI, other OS set to "other" as I only have windows 7 and 8 i think. All the four times completely clean install.

Yes, it does with or without OC, also, I did calculate online how many watts my rig consumes and seems to be around 600w (see attached image) so, I suppose to be fine with this RM650

cheers

Hello,

Does the motherboard have any Fast boot options in the BIOS which are enabled?
If so, Disable and see if your problem goes away.

Hello, thanks for replying!

Yes, it does and I tried all options already. Fast boot, ultra fast boot and normal, all the same :/

Cheers

Some of the BallistiX kits run at 2400Mhz standard SPD profile which may not be an issue but check your default frequency and set it to 2133Mhz for testing purposes.

Other than that, do you have any other branded DDR4 memory you can borrow / test?

I tested and nothing mate, set the memos to 2133 but still the same. No, just these crucial 64gb, all the same.

I don't have any other memory :/ I need to buy one to test. Any recommendation? or any 2133MHz should work?

Hi Lucas, Guys...

Ya probably memory.  Seems like it works from a warm boot and not cold.

Likely unrelated, but do you have that CPU cooler properly connected to the correct FAN headers?  I'm skeptical about this since it does work every third try.  So likely not related.

As far as memory goes...  I recommend Corsair

When I first set the board up I use these:  http://www.microcenter.com/product/456147/8GB_2_x_4GB_DDR4-2133_(PC4-17000)_C15_Dual_Channel_Desktop_Memory_Module_Kit

Then I put in these:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231784

Then put these in and they are running 2400:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211913&cm_re=AX4U2400W8G16-QRZ-_-20-211-913-_-Product

I normally only use what the CPU will support. You are really not going to see a difference between 2133 to 3800. Now that is to everybody picking what memory they want to run. Plus this is just me it is a waste of time & money getting faster memory.

Hi shadowsports,

Thanks for replying :)

Yes, they are connected on the correct ones. This board have a special connector for water coolers, "CPU_OPT", I tried both, CPU one and the OPT but nothing changed...

anyway, Gigabyte said to send it back, so posting tomorrow. I'll probably but another one, I guess will take a bit long to sort this out.

Cheers,

Lucas
