Upgraded motherboard - now computer crashes

Hi,

I just upgraded my motherboard and cpu, MA74GMT-S2 with AMD Athlon II 2.5GHz and 4GB RAM.  The computer starts up fine and will load the OS but it inevitably crashes after ~3 min and only a hard restart will get it going.  I tried to reinstall the OS but the same crash occurs when booting from the CD, indicating that it's the new hardware.  I'm at a loss for an explanation, any ideas?

could you post full system specs (RAM, GPU, PSU, HDD's etc) and also the OS you are using, to help with trouble shooting, as BSOD's can be caused by many different things. The more info you can post the easier it is to help.

RAM: 2 x 2GB 1333MHz DDR3 Fuyun sticks
GPU: nVidia 7300GS 256MB PCI-e
PSU: 300W (any other params required?)
HDD: 1 x 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA
CDROM: LG DVD-RW IDE

Hi,

At first glance I suspect that you may need to improve your PSU as 300W is maybe a little on the light side. Checking through your mobo manual a PSU of 500W is recommended.

The problem you describe is similar to that encountered if you under-clock a system by too much, insofar as the system will boot and start-up but after a short time you will get BSOD's.

Interesting, honestly wasn't expecting that response.  Sorry for my lack of detailed reading of the manual.    Makes sense though, I'll upgrade the PSU and see how it goes.  Thanks very much!

hi normaly blue screen is ram .alot of mobs dont boot up with 4 gig of ram try a 1 gig stick ,sometimes even on  64bit o/s
normaly black screan is grafics cards

Have you tried changing the SATA mode to "normal" or something similar. Basically so its not on AHCI mode...then try a reinsall of your OS.

I had a similar problem at work where it would blue screen when loading OS + bluescreen when trying to boot the WinXP CD. Changing the SATA mode worked for me.
