GA-Z170N-WiFi SATA configuration
« on: May 30, 2016, 09:40:02 am »
Good day to everyone,
I wonder if someone may be able to help? I have just installed a Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2 SATA 6Gb/s into the GA-Z170N-Wifi motherboard. I have installed Windows 10 to this drive and everything works well and fast. However, I also have three other drives installed which are a Kingston 240 G/b SSD, a 2 T/b 7200RPM hard drive and a DVD drive.
After installing the Samsung M.2 SSD the Kingston SSD is not showing up in the BIOS or indeed in Windows 10.
The 2 T/b drive and the DVD drive still show up and are running fine.

Do I need to alter the how the connectors are connected to the motherboard? I have also found the attached picture that leads me to believe this may be the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Yes when you use the M2 slot it will take away some of the SATA ports due to bandwidth limitations.
The manual shows a chart which tries to explain what combinations you can use.

What is your current config?

SATA 0 = Kingston
SATA 1 = 2TB
SATA 2 = DVD
SATA 3
SATA 4
SATA 5

I'm guessing you got the Kingston SSD in SATA port 0?
Move it to SATA port 5
