GA-X58A-UD7 - BIOS for Xeon W3530 ?
« on: April 16, 2010, 07:32:21 am »
Hi!
I'm building a new computer with:
 - GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard
 - Xeon W3530 processor
 - Kingston 1333 ECC Unbuffered KVR1333D3E9SK3/6GI Memory
What will happen when I turn on the computer for the first time, since the W3530 processor is not officially supported in the BIOS yet?
When will there be a BIOS update to support the W3530?
Is there a beta BIOS that I could use until the official BIOS update is released?
 - Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm interested in this as well. Thinking of using GA-X58A-UD5 and W3530 in my new build.
I wouldn't have a different CPU to use, so the motherboard would have to work straight out of the box.

I dropped a note to Gigabyte support, so far no answer, but I hope someone might reply here who's tried out these boards with Xeons.

Hi!
Here are my questions to GIGABYTE Support and their responses. - It looks like this motherboard will work with the Xeon W3530.
I will post an update after the computer is built and tested.

Hi!
According to the GA-X58A-UD7 webpage here:
http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=3263
This motherboard already supports the Xeon W3520, W3540, W3550, W3570, and W3580.
The Xeon W3520 is the workstation version of the Core i7-920 and the Xeon W3530 is the workstation version of the Core i7-930.
The only difference between the Xeon workstation processors and the Core i7 versions is that the memory controllers on the Xeon processors support ECC memory.
Since the Xeon W3520 is already supported, could the next bios update include support for the W3530?
Thanks,

Answer
Dear Customer
We had double check with our team and they had indicated it will be ok with that processor

Hi!

Sorry that it's taken so long for me to update.

Everything started up fine on the first boot.
The motherboard had BIOS version F2 - I immediately updated to version F6.

The computer has been running great for the past year with:
 - GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard (rev 1)
 - Xeon W3530 processor
 - Kingston 1333 ECC Unbuffered KVR1333D3E9SK3/6GI Memory
(memory running at DDR3 1066 memory controller speed)

Hi again and thanks for updating the thread.

I run the same board myself on one of my machines and they ar eindeed high quality both in manufacture and design. Especially in my mind the revision 1.0 boards. Fairly bomb proof in fact.

Glad you are happy with it anyway.  ;D
