Help me with boot times - Gigabyte GA-Z170X-GAMING 7

Hello All, i have just built a new PC based on the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-GAMING 7 (spec below)

i am having slow boot times around 30 seconds that bug me more than cause issues, as my old pc this replaced was much quicker, i have done some testing and it seems if i unplug my Western Digital Caviar Black 3TB i get around 20 second boot time, roughly 10 seconds to bios screen then 10 to windows.  any ideas? as i have disabled it from any load screens.

Hello,

From my experience, it's a bit of trial and error but here's what I did to get faster boot time.

There is an option to enable fast boot in the UEFI bios. Use it.
Same for ram, I activated fast boot on it.
Third, there is an option to specify which windows version you use, I noticed a small improvement by putting Windows8/10 in there.
There is also an option to choose which PCie slot is going to be looked up first to display on startup. Choose the one where you Gfx card is in. ( Should be the first or second)

On the top of my head that's all I can think off !

Without any drives attached how long does it remain at the BIOS screen before trying to boot / boot error as no drives attached?

Is there a huge pause before seeing the Gigabyte logo and does it do this when you are not overclocking?

i just done some testing.

10 seconds before the bios logs in with no hard drives (logo disabled)

10 seconds before i see the windows logo with pci drive - then around 8 seconds until windows booted (total 18 seconds)

10 seconds before i see the windows logo with pci drive and 3TB drive then around 12 seconds until windows is booted (total 22 seconds)

The moment I hit the power switch, 10s to see BIOS logo.
From Windows 10 loading screen to desktop 20s.
Total 30s boot time.

I haven't changed the BIOS settings yet so there might be room for improvement but its ~30s.

for my setup and system i should be getting 10 second boots

Yea for my Gigabyte board its a low power / silent build.

I did once upon a time have the hardware listed in my sig installed with the Gigabyte board, boot times were still slow, not as fast as the MSI one but I'll take a loot at the BIOS on the Z170X-UD5 TH and see if I can improve it.

i am going to try another mobo as Gigabyte support does not exist

I enabled the ultra fast boot option, USB set to partial initialization, power on to desktop = 24s.
Still the same to see BIOS logo, 10s.
