X58 UD7 Rev 2.0 cpu pwn issue
« on: August 08, 2016, 08:15:34 pm »
Recently swapped my EVGA X58 760 A1 for my spare UD7 that I bought off eBay 5-6 months ago.  There may be an issue stemming from not reinstalling windows 7 and then upgrading to 10, when I swapped boards.  Oddly I can boot into Windows 10.  But my first issue is the motor for my Swiftech MCR-x20 Drive is pegged at 100% with the bios setting set to PWN.  There is almost most no variation in the pump speed.  Even when the temp reads 35* on the hottest core of my W3690.  First problem is that is too noisy for me.  Secondly if left at 100% it will burn out the pump.  I am currently trying to find a work around for it.  But is there any other option to reduce the motor speed?  It seems the ramp up curve is set too steep.  What am I doing wrong?

The second issue is that I cannot figure out how to upgrade from bios FB.  It's odd that the W3690 works on the board, but at the least I'd like to be using the FD bios.  I keep getting an error that says there is no HDD found.

Thoughts?  Help

Thanks, in advance :)

CPU Smart FAN Mode
Specifies how to control CPU fan speed. This item is configurable only if CPU Smart FAN Control is set
to Enabled.
Auto Lets the BIOS automatically detect the type of CPU fan installed and sets the optimal
CPU fan control mode. (Default)
Voltage Sets Voltage mode for a 3-pin CPU fan.
PWM Sets PWM mode for a 4-pin CPU fan.

Note: The Voltage mode can be set for a 3-pin CPU fan or a 4-pin CPU fan. However, for a 4-pin CPU
fan that is not designed following Intel PWM fan specifications, selecting PWM mode may not effectively
reduce the fan speed.

Have you tried a boot able USB drive with the bios files on it? https://rufus.akeo.ie/

I had to ditch the loop and install my old heat sink.

I did have luck with a usb hdd.  Forgot I had to change the file format to FAT32.  Although I did run into an issue.  I was able to install the FC bios, but the FD bios is 'incorrect file size'  It's a 2mb file whereas the FC file was 1mb.  Any idea what the deal is with that?

Thanks again for the reply :)

You trying to do in the bios ? I would try it from a boot able USB drive.

Yes, I tried it from a USB drive.  Still said incorrect file size

Thanks for the help!

Also what is better to reset the bios to, Fail safe or optimized defaults?

optimized defaults?

Already flashed the bios.  I was curious what defaults to set it back to because there are two options to choose from..

The flash utility worked perfect in windows 10.  Thanks for all the help :)
