Gigabyte Z97x Ram Issues
« on: September 04, 2016, 07:25:12 pm »
Hello
I have four ram slots in my GIGABYTE Z97x-UD3H-BK , i7 4790k processor and two 8GB gkills DDR3 2400 bus Memory sticks, everything was working fine suddenly the pc started not to boot . so I checked what's the problem and found out somehow the last two slots of the four slots are not working ! so the first two slots are only working. I have attached a picture of my motherboard and marked the bad slots with red line.

Now I inserted the two ram in first two slots and the pc can detect them as 16gb and boot properly.
And now question is what possible reason can make this happen? Many of the solutions were to check cpu socket for bent pins I checked with magifying glass and could not find anything suspicious in the socket. and most Importantly the problem occurred suddenly when the cpu was inside the socket and not opened before ..
I know to get a dual channel I must insert the ram in slot 1 and 3 , but slot 3 and 4 are not working and I dont have any idea what to do.

Its your memory.  Anything above 1600 is O.C.

3.Support for 3100(O.C.) / 3000(O.C.) / 2933(O.C.) / 2800(O.C.) / 2666(O.C.) / 2600(O.C.) / 2500(O.C.) / 2400(O.C.) / 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 MHz memory modules

Is the RAM on the QVL for your board?  May require O.C., manual settings or XMP.

I have been using those rams for almost 1 years in this Mobo everything was working fine and this happened. And yes I turned the XMP to profile 1. I checked with less than 1600 bus  dual ram. same problem.
By The way before it happened I suddenly experienced a BSOD in while running windows.

There are only two things that could go wrong. 1. The memory controller went bad in the CPU or 2. The board is gone bad. The other thing is that it is slot 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 that are the slots to run dual channel. The slots go 1, 3, 2, & 4.

Disconnect power and perform a battery pull.  If a CMOS reset doesn't help.  You've got hardware failure like dmdilks suggests.

Tried CMOS reset. No luck. same problem. I think I have to claim warranty for the board  :(
