Ga-Z170x-Gaming 3 + i7 6700k randomly reverts to old cmos settings

Sometimes after I've changed something in bios (eg. switching from pcie1 gpu to IGP) and go back things like old overclock settings will change back (default clock settings changing back to oc settings etc). Sometimes this will randomly happen after shutting down and just entering bios too. I have to do optimized defaults and change everything back. I don't know how to explain this any better, anyone ever heard of this? Things to try?

whole system = z170x gaming 3, i7 6700k, 2 x 8gb gskill ddr4 3000

We've heard of this happening before when people have set up Profiles either in BIOS or Easy Tune and abandon them.  Sometimes they return unexpectedly.  As far as them happening on their own, haven't heard this from others.

So it's only supposed to happen with saved profiles? Anything I can do about it? It might be tied to sleep somehow too, because when I put it to sleep after this happens it won't come out, it freezes so bad the reset button doesn't work. But then when power off and on the sleep works fine.
