GA-EP45-UD3P rev 1.6 restarts

my gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p rev 1.6 restarts constantly, i got this log file under the name service:

I have the same problem. My GA-EP45-UD3P (Ver 1.6) will run for about ten minutes if it has been off for a few hours, then it starts rebooting. Once rebooting starts it will run for less than a minute before rebooting again (usually can't get through the boot process). Can't even run long enough to get a good look at the BIOS. The temps are ~35C for the system and ~33C for the cpu.

I have replaced the memory and the graphics card. The board was RMA'd to Gigabyte. They say it was repaired, but all I can find is that they upgraded the BIOS. When I got it back it continued to do the same thing again.

When it reboots it actually powers down (all the fans go off) and then it starts up again. I checked the power supply with a supply tester and it showed normal operation. I can run the power supply on the tester for hours without it shutting off. Granted the tester probably does not load the PSU much.

The system this board is in is homebuilt and ran for over a year without any problems before this started happening. I have done the things Gigabyte tech support has suggested, but this has not helped.

A full detailed list of your hardware would be a big help along with a little more information about the problem please.

When you can get into Windows next go to Control Panel/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced tab and Startup and Recovery section disable Automatically Restart
This may not stop the problem but at least it will narrow it down.

Automatic restart is already disabled.

My system will restart in windows without showing the BSOD. It wil also restart when looking at the BIOS and when running diagnostics (from UBCD).

The longer it is powered on the more frequently it reboots. If it has been turned off overnight, it will run for about 15 minutes before the rebooting starts. All reported temps remain below ~38 C.

Video card has been swapped with a differnent type (PCI for PCI express).
Bought new memory.
Motherboard RMA'd (no information on what was done to it).

Only thing left is the PSU (650W) and the CPU. I don't have a spare for either.

When the system reboots, everything powers off and back on. So it seems that the PSU is being commanded off. I disconnected the Reset and power switch from the motherboard and the same thing continues.

What is a good way to stress test the PSU?

That statement makes it sound as if it has something to do with overheating. Now I know you say it doesn't but it is the best thing we have to go on at the moment.
Check that the CPU heatsink is fastenend down securely and free from dust build up. Make sure the fan is spinning at full speed.
Check that the PSU is clean especially round the fan area.
Make sure all the case fans are clean and working correctly.

It could well be the PSU that is causing the problem especially if it is a bit older as they deteriorate with age. Have you tried running it with the old graphics card back in to see if that makes any difference?

Yes it night be heat related, except that the reported temps are normal (even on the cool side). All the fans are working fine. The CPU fan is under thermo control so it does not run at full speed, but I will override that.

It makes no difference if the case is open or closed. CPU temp is always less than 35 deg C.

The system ran for over 16 months before this started happening. No hardware has been changed between the build time and then except the video card which was replaced a year ago.

Anyone know how I can stress test the PSU to make sure it is not the problem (other than putting into another computer)?

I understand what you are saying about the temperatures but it wouldn't be the first time that they have been reported wrongly. 35 degrees under load is very low and I find that hard to believe. So have you done the checks I suggested?

The best way of stressing the PSU is to use it hard in your system. I would advise borrowing another one  of at least 600W and see if that makes any difference.

All the fans are clean and working. The motherboard just came back from the manufacturer so it is clean.

The CPU heat sink was removed, cleaned, regreased, and reinstalled (according to the Artic Silver web instructions).

This evening (US EST), I will change the BIOS to run the CPU fan at full speed and see what happens.

What heatsink/fan are you using on your CPU?

Don't remember the make off the top of my head. It is aftermarket (not Intel CPU fan). It has a large fin assembly with a fan on the side of the fins, and copper block and pipes.  Looks sort of like a Cooler Master (might be Cooler Master).

Have to check when I get home.
