Hi All,
Thankfully Google found the Forum!

I have the above combination and have hit a bit of a brick wall.    With Nothing else fitted (No external Video,  or connectors other than the speaker and on/off button)  The Machine will not Post.   The Memory is fitted to Bank "B" (The RED SLOTS)??   Powering on the machine,  the board LED's light (Did not expect that!)   but the display stays blank.  Tried VGA/DVI and HDMI ports.  No Beep codes.     Removed the RAM to force a known POST failure, and that does produce the correct BEEP CODE for bad/missing memory.

I have tried a number of memory combinations in the slots including single DIMM  but I ether get Beepcodes (Mixed bank which should not work anyway).  or if a single DIMM is fitted to Slot 1.

At this stage I am kind of a bit stuck.   Is it Memory, CPU or MB.   Although I am guessing as I can force a POST Failure by taking the RAM out the CPU is ok.  (Unless the Bios has the capability of POST independent of the CPU (Some servers can do this, but not sure if its been adopted by "home" Systems.

Unfortunately I have no other machine running a socket 1151  or uses DDR4

The supplier I am told has a very good RMA,  but I would like to trouble shoot this a little more myself.   I am leaning towards the memory is bad.  But I would welcome other thoughts/comments.

I have had a number of GA Boards over the years and so far never hit a DOA system, always a first guess.

Hi,

I looked on the box but could not see a REV on their,  however its not until I found this forum I was aware of the BIOS Version number format.  I will take a look when I get back from work.

So as far as BIOS version,  currently I am not sure as I cannot boot the machine :(  but an interesting point.
I am guessing its already been covered off else where in the Forum,  but to save time I will ask "Again.."   How does one upgrade the BIOS when it appears to be dead in the water ?   is there a special button press or method ?

I will lift the CPU tonight and take a good look.  I am prity confident that will be okay, but  I will re-check. Heck its only a little spot of Compound to clean off and put some more on!

The CPU connector is defently attached and passing power.

I will update in a couple of hours (finish work VERY soon (after 12hrs)) and a nice 1.25hr drive home.

If possible do Gigabyte mark the PCB with the Bios Rev,  or at least mark the EEprom?

Thank for the reply anyway

*****There is no way to update a BIOS on a system that will not POST.  There is also no way to boot or start a system without a CPU installed.  While it is possible to flash some server boards, consumer boards aren't there yet.  No BIOS flash back button on this board, etc.

I will lift the CPU tonight and take a good look.  I am pretty confident that will be okay, but  I will re-check. Heck its only a little spot of Compound to clean off and put some more on!

*****Yes, unlikely this is the issue, but good to rule out.  Quickest way to figure out your problem is probably with a CPU supported by the shipping BIOS.  If you get POST, you need to upgrade the BIOS.  If it won't POST, the board is likely DOA based on your current description.

The CPU connector is definitely attached and passing power.

******Thanks for confirming

***If memory servers, neither chip is stamped with the shipping BIOS rev.  Uncommon for a long while and I don't think Gigabyte has ever included a sticker with the BIOS rev on their boards (like others did/do), but it would be nice.

Thank for the reply anyway

***Just trying to help, no POST situations are frustrating.

Hello,

Your best option is to get the BIOS flashed to a version that supports your CPU.
Ask the retailer to update the BIOS or purchase a Celeron G3900 CPU ~£40 and do the flash yourself.
