GA-MA790FXT-UD5P cannot boot from Raid 0

Hi all,
I've got a system that ran on RAID 0, (it boot strait form RADI 0), but a few weeks back the system crashed and gave me the blue screen. Each time i sta, it will be stuck at the dot prompt "AMD data change...Update new data file to DIM", I think I was setting the RAM to 1600Mhz in the BIOS when it crashed, and afterwards it never could boot up from C:, one of the OCZ Ram I confirm dead with various memory test that boot from CD, it all failed for a few seconds.

Well I hope someone could help me to setup my system so I could boot from my Raid 0, I wish I don't have to reinstall all again, now the system boots form c: only if I press F12 and select the 1T Seagate, and everything is ok, Raid 0..Funtional, RAM @ 1333Mhz ok.

4GB 2x2GB OCZ-DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum AMD Edition
HIS Radeon HD4870 Turbo 1GB
2 x 500GB Seagate 72000rpm 32MB cache SATA 3.0GB/s

First off that PSU isnt that good a 4870 at peak can draw up to 22amps.  That PSU even with 4 x 12 volt rails has a max peak of 25 amps and thats at MAX PEAK.  Raid 0 which i use has to have a stable PSU to run reliably.  Also take into effect all the complaints about that ram you are using and its a headache waiting to happen.

I didn’t think that the PSU could be the problem, all the system is running ok,  Raid 0 (2x 500G Seagate)
I use a 750W at the time I think it was enough for Radeon 4870 din’t thought of the Amps, not even knew that OCZ  AMD SPECIAL EDITION could be a problem, even wanted to buy the OCZ Balck Edithon PC3 12800 too.
I thought the BIOS could be the problem but as a surprise to me as could be the PSU, this setting sometimes it will restart if all is set to ACHI, but configured to IDE on boot press F12 it will start windows?

My concern for your setup is that the memory crash may have caused bad data to be written to the disks

Using cheap ram a few years ago, a faulty stick would install windows fine, but while using it, would write bad data back to the hdd's at shutdown causing it to fail to boot beyond a blue screen.
When I replaced the ram I had to reinstall as many base system files were messed up.

one thing to try is to install windows to another drive and see if you can see the raid array from that installation to backup your files.

Hi, I’m using 2G of OCZ and all is fine with this RAM, tested for hours ( and is this a cheap RAM, coz when I bought I thought it was very good RAM).
My system now boots form the 1T seagate that I bought additionally when all crashed, and it can read the Raid 0, ram OCZ 2G ok, no overclock and the system only boots form C: = 1T Seagate if I press F12 during boot time, and I can’t make it boot directly from C: Why? (Raid 0 not even 1T).
Can u help me on this?

well I have a feeling the installation may have been trashed when the memory failed previously,
imagine windows writing bad updates to the hdd replacing system or even boot files with corrupt data on shutdown.

you could try running chkdsk from the boot disk against the raid array

and the sfc /scannow function to check for system files if it will let you

there are a bunch of recovery options that may help.

if you can get your data off the raid array, then I would do a backup then reinstall a fresh system on the raid 0
probably take less time than the recovery anyway, which I have often found with virus infections.

Hi I know it sounds silly but have you checked your Hard drives you are using 500Gb seagates which are renowned for having problems

if they are fine it may be the ram issue as your hard drives store the raid data as well as your o/s so as stated before it could be corrupted data on the hard drives

i use 2 x 500 gig seagates in raid 0 and havent had a problem in 3 years. I am going to go check my bios settings as i think i see a difference in mine will report back in 5 minutes. Make sure your voltage to ram is set right. And make sure you configured raid 0 right on the board in bios. Best bet is to reset your raid 0 and name it then set it. Redo windows to the new raid and see how it works. BRB with my bios settings.

Hi guys,
I’ve decide to reinstall everything on the Raid 0 (2 x 500G Seagate SATA) and use the 1T Seagate SATA to use as a backup. I intend to use Gigabyte BACKUP on the blue SATA ports, and my doubt is whether the Pioneer DVD RW will fit in, in the Gigabyte SATA ports4/5 or SB750 SATA ports0/3that are assign as Raid?
I intend to use Gigabyte Smart Backup, never use it before, is it good, can I restore all if my system crash, will it restore just the data, system files or both. (image of my Raid 0)?

Please help me confirm this settings are they right?

Don’t quit get what u wrote, to hi for me
1- Voltage to RAM is default 1.6v or 1.65 not shure – OCZ is 1.65V

      MY RAID 0 WAS CONFIGURED AFTER THE POST "Press <Ctrl-F>  is this what u mean? ALSO USE RAID DIRVER FORM GIGABYTE CD ON WIN7 SETUP
How to rest my Raid 0, actually this is my first time using raid array disk since I bought this mobo.

You should change 1 setting and that is the setting for sata port 4/5 type-  IDE    use those two for single sta drives or dvd or cd sata drives.   use the other 4 sata ports for Raid 1 or Raid 0 or as a Raid 5 wich is a raid 0 stripped and copied for back up. Your 1 terabyte drive can be plugged  in anywhere i use a 500 gig back up in port 3 and in ports 1/2 is two 500 gig as raid 0.  Raid 0 if done right is stable and fast and as realiable as a singl hard drive. As you said you hit cntrl/f to setup raid that is what i meant so good job there.
