wich mb for 1055t and corsair 800 c5 (8gb - 4x2gb)

I would like to upgrade the PC. I do not want to sell the 8 GB of RAM for the new modules.
I thought about a x6 1055t. Which motherboard recommended for my memory (2x TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX)? Thank you.
Probably i will  overclock.

Hi,

Because you want to keep your current DDR2 memory, the choice is a little limited.

However the GA-MA790X-UD3P (check this link: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3107&dl=1# ) will take your RAM and also your choice of CPU.

You will most probably need to update the BIOS if you go for this board (especially if you are buying in the UK) so it might be worthwhile checking that your current CPU will also work on this board (with earlier BIOS) as you might need to use that one to flash BIOS first.

Hope this helps

in ram compatibility chart i can see :     1GB         CORSAIR CM2X1024-6400C4 DS, but i have 4 x 2gb each module.. it's ok anyway?
in spec i read the 1055t is supported, why i have to flash bios?
Is a simple, sure and granted  procedure?

Hi,

Yes, your RAM should work OK with this Mobo. The RAM Compatibility Chart is not full list of supported RAM and is really a guide to those memory modules tested by Gigabyte.

If you buy this Motherboard it might have earlier BIOS rather than latest (this is often the case as shops/on-line stores can hold stock for long periods of time). I think that you will have to flash BIOS because of this and the fact that the CPU you are thinking of getting is new and the BIOS that supports it (F7A) was only released in April.

Flashing BIOS is fairly simple and I would recommend using the QFlash utility to do this. I have flashed BIOS on many Gigabyte Mobos and have not had a problem but, there is always a risk with flashing BIOS and it is important that you follow the instructions in the Manual for your Mobo regarding the QFlash Utility.

which the difference?

GA-MA790X-UD3P = DDR2 Memory (Searching for this Mobo on Gigabytes site it shows as a legacy product which I think means it is no longer being made.)

GA-MA790XT-UD4P = DDR3 memory (Newer model, but excluded from your original request as it needs DDR3 Memory!)

My understanding of the next generation AMD "Bulldozer" CPU's are that they will not be compatible with DDR2 Memory or AM2/AM2+ Mobos and will need an AM3 (With BIOS Upgrade) or a new AM3+ Mobo. (Not sure if this is correct but current info on the web points to this being the case)

it's true i have to boot the mb with a older chip than x6, to flash bios and then substitute the cpu with x6?
