Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P Rev 1.3 Audio Problems
« on: June 08, 2010, 09:46:17 am »
I have a Amd X3 425 - 4GB - Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P Rev 1.3 motherboard I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. The sound keeps coming out distorted  & stuttering I have tried the last motheboard drivers from gigabyte & even the realtek hd audio drivers from there site. I have to unistall the onboard sound then re install it & it will work for a couple of days then I will have to redo it again. I have run tests on all my hard drives & flashed with the latest bios version still keeps doing it & seems to be getting worse any ideas? :(

Hi,

As a matter of interest does the problem occur when you play a CD/DVD or when you are accessing files that are on your Hard-drives?
Are you overclocking anything or have you unlocked the cores on your CPU?
What software are you using for Audio playback?

If you can play a CD or DVD without any issues than it is more than likely a problem with the information being read from the HDD's rather than an Audio hardware or driver issue.

If you could post back with further information it would help.

Have you checked to see what sampling rate you are using?

I would say it is to do with the drivers for the onboard sound from what you have said. You have two options try and find some better drivers or use a discrete sound card. :)

Hi,

Have you done a clean install of your OS since this problem started or have you just been removing/replacing the audio drivers? Sometimes the registry in Windows can become confused, especially if you are installing/un-installing/re-installing hardware or software.

Considering your problem and from the limited information that you have posted regarding the way your system is set-up this would be the logical step to take before looking at other options.

If I was faced with this situation I would:
Re-install the OS
Load Chipset/Mobo drivers (I would not install any of the extra software)
Load GPU drivers (Remember to disable the HDMI option of your graphics card if you are intending to use only the Motherboards audio)
Load other hardware drivers that are needed
Load basic software
TEST audio.

Please try this and see if it cures the problem.

That is good advice absic115. It certainly doesn't seem like a hardware problem as such and would much more likely be sorted with a clean install. If it was hardware he wouldn't be able to fix it even for a few days by re-installing the drivers.

This was a clean install of the OS and have disabled the hdmi on the graphics cards I have put a sound blaster in it now with the on board disabled & still does the same thing so I do not think it is a hardware problem.

It appears that the only thing we have neglected to cover is the speaker system. Can you tell us what you are using and how it is set up? Does the sound still play up when you use headphones? :-\

I have a set of 2.1 creative speakers and they are set as 2.1 in the config panel and they work fine on my laptop and ipod it seems to be a windows 7 issue as there quite a few posts of people having problems on vairous forums

I have run a latency checker on it this morning as the sound was bad & it was through the roof rebooted and gone back to normal now so I need to find out what keeps doing this

I'm afraid I have more or less run out of ideas. It is always harder to diagnose from just the symptoms without the hardware in front of you to test. You say there are many other people on forums with the same problem. Have any of them come to a conclusion as to the cause? ???

Hi,

Audio in Windows 7 really shouldn't be causing you this much grief and I'm very surprised that after installing a Sound Blaster card that you are still having issues.

Could you please post back with details of the following:
Which version of Windows 7 you are using and is it 32 or 64 bit? Also is it OEM, Upgrade, Full Retail or crack?
Are you overclocking or have you unlocked your CPU?
Are you using Windows Media Player or other program(s) for Audio Playback?
What kind of internet connection are you using and who is your provider?
Could you also please provide your full system specs as other items that you have (including USB Devices that you have plugged in) could have an impact on Audio playback and the more details you provide, the easier it makes it to help with troubleshooting.

Thanks

I am running windows 7 ultimate 32bit retail legitimate my cpu is factory set. I have tried wmp, winamp, itunes & nero showtime. My internet provider is virgin media and I connect via a wireless railink usb dongle. The usb devices I have plugged in are the wireless usb network & wireless keyboard & mouse combo. I have start disabling devices that arent used often because when i load dpc latency checker when i boot up it starts green then over time starts to get higher & higher untill the sound starts distorting I have tried a few things b4 i lfet for work so going to see what it is like when I get home.

I know that it is a clean install but what is causing the dpc latency to rise?
Do you have any power conditioning such as an UPS? If not it could be noise coming through from a dirty mains supply.
Have you done a thorough anti-virus scan of all drives and USB pens etc?
