PC wont start with new processor.
« on: June 25, 2010, 01:48:18 pm »
Hi, im in desperate need of help.

I have a Gigabyte 870a motherboard and a Phenom II 1055t processor. I have updated the bios on the motherboard and it run perfect with a spare single core processor i have but when i try to use the new 1055t, i get no display and no post, all the fan spin but thats about it.

I thought it was the mobo so got a replacement, then i replaced the cpu, then the gfx but all to no avail.

Hi,

Could you please post full system specs as the cause for the PC not starting can be due to many things.
Could you also state if you are getting any beeps from the mobo when you start up as these can also help in locating issues. (you will need to have a mobo speaker attached to hear them).
And is your mobo the GA-870A-UD3 (rev. 2.0)?

Thanks

Hi,

The problem could well be your PSU. A quick check shows that the PSU for your GPU needs to be at least 500W. This would be the first thing to check out.

Another indication that the PSU isn't powerful enough is the fact that you are getting fans spinning and not much else.

Double check all the connections to the Mobo and the Graphics card but, if you are still having no joy try a more powerful PSU.

I would have top agree it sounds like the PSU power isn't enough. Try disconnecting everything that isn't necessery for the machine to boot and see if it makes any difference. This will at least prove the point.

I'd like to know brand and model of PSU just so we can verify it has enough juice. A corsair 550 would run it but an off brand PSU prolly wouldwnt. Do you have a friend with a better PSU if so see if u can use if to check then go from there

Hi,

Don't forget to let us know if you are getting any beeps from the Mobo when you power up as they can sometimes  help trace the problem.

If it is due to power you should get a series of continuous short beeps.

I would have to say that although we don't have all the information yet on your specifications your PSU must be getting near it's top perfomance output anyway. If you plan to upgrade much in the near future it would pay you to get a new supply like a larger Corsair etc. Just thought I would add this in case you couldn't borrow one and were in two minds whether to make a purchase. :-\
