GA-EP45-UD3LR rev1.1 Can't get to bios
« on: July 15, 2010, 04:00:02 pm »
Hi guys, I had a thorough browse but didnt see a fix to the problem i am experiencing so i made a new topic, apologies in advance if i missed a relevant thread.

I have been running a Q6600 (go stepping) on a Asus P5N32-E-SLI plus for a couple of years now, i am not into overclocking and have always ran my rig at stock speeds and voltages. Earlier this week my pc died mid use and on trying to reboot i found it wouldnt post, on changing some ram around i found 1 of the ram slots (slot 1) had died completely. I figured i would buy myself a new mobo and opted for the GA-EP45-UD3LR on the advice of afew forums i searched.

I have fitted my new mobo this morning but i am having difficulty in getting this to go into the BIOS, it makes the single beep, the lights flick on and off on my keyboard but then it hangs on the splash screen indefinately. I am using the 1.1 revision of the board, an Intel Q6600 Go stepping version with an Arctic Freezer pro 7 rev2 HSF, 2x2GB DDR2 800 OCZ ram (2.1v), Nvidia 8800gt and an 850w PSU.

I have tried some basics to get this working including:

trying 1 stick of the OCZ DDR2 800 RAM in all the slots
trying different single sticks of lower voltage (1.8v Elixir 1gb sticks) in all the slots
trying a different (albeit only 400 watt) PSU
trying a ps2 keyboard instead of my USB
trying to boot with only the CPU, HSF, single stick of ram and video card connected
trying all of the above both in and out of my case incase of shorting

I have had no joy with any of the above steps and they all result in a hang at the splash screen. I was hoping someone may have had this issue before or possibly reccomend any further steps to try, unfortunately i do not have access to a second CPU for testing.

It may also be worth noting that the phase led's are indicating:

1 green
2 green
3 orange
4 red

Many thanks for your time guys

Panj

First clear the CMOS as described in our FAQ section. Then try rebooting into the BIOS. I suspect that it maybe a memory problem but one thing at a time.

Hi Dark Mantis and thanks for the speedy reply.

I cleared the cmos, and on trying to power on afterwards the fans started spinning then the pc shutdown and then restarted again. I'm unsure if this is normal behaviour for a Gigabyte board or any board with a dual bios as this is the first i have owned of either. After it had restarted it still hung at the splash screen unfortunately.

Cheers

Just to save me time have you checked your memory on the Gigabyte QVL? and the OCZ QVL?

Ouch, it seems neither of the sets i have are on the QVL. It maybe time to send it back and replace it with another Asus :(

Thanks very much for your help DM , it is very much appreciated.

Before you do that, just because they are not on Gigabytes QVL just means that they haven't certified them as tested OK. Have you checked on the manufacturers website to see if they list the Gigabyte board as ok?

Thanks for the reply DM, Ive had a look through the lists and it seems every type of Elixir memory bar mine is supported (sods law huh) as for OCZ im having trouble locating an official QVL but on the OCZ forums they seem to be on very little QVL's and no mention of this motherboard so i guess im out of luck.

Cheers for your time  :)
