Alas my aged computer rig has suffered BSOD, but I am finding it difficult to diagnose the problem, as I was AFK at the time.
I suspect that my CPU might have overheated as I discovered that one of the case fans had died after I opened the case to look inside. I removed the CPU, replaced the thermal paste and it worked for a while but now it won't restart at all.
I am not getting the POST screen, and I am not getting any warning beeps from motherboard. However, all the other components seem to be working: GPU, CPU fan so the motherboard seems to be working.
Is there any way to diagnose the problem? I suspect the CPU is the problem, so I have ordered a new one. However, I am concerned that if the new CPU is installed, and it still does not POST with no beeps, then I will have no idea which component of my rig might be defective.
Thinking the unthinkable: if my rig (which is getting on a bit) can't be revived, is possible to upgrade my motherboard/CPU /RAM and install the latest version of Windows? If so, are there any recommendations? The only advanced feature I seek from my PC is that it can play a PC based game on high resolution settings.
