Z390 Aorus Pro - No VGA output after enabling secure boot - HELP

Hi,

I enabled secure boot on my Z390 Aorus Pro last night and now I get 5 beeps on boot and the board shows a VGA error on the 4 lights.

I've tried reseting the BIOS, holding down the reset and power for 10 seconds to force a dual boot and removing the battery overnight to no avail.

I have an Intel i7 9770KF so I can't remove the graphics card and boot from the on-board graphics to turn off secure boot.

Any advice would be great as it looks like I'm going to have to buy a new board.....

Greetings,
Enabling Secure Boot in itself should not cause this type of issue.

You need to review your manual:

Pressing / holding the Reset or Power button is not how you reset or CLR the BIOS

https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_z390-aorus-pro_wifi_1001_190708_e.pdf

You can use the CLR_CMOS jumper for this.  This is located in the lower right-hand corner of the board above the F_Panel header.

 CLR_CMOS (Clear CMOS Jumper)
Use this jumper to clear the BIOS configuration and reset the CMOS values to factory defaults. To clear
the CMOS values, use a metal object like a screwdriver to touch the two pins for a few seconds.

• Always turn off your computer and unplug the power cord from the power outlet before clearing
the CMOS values. Note, the MB battery has to be installed to perform the reset.

Start here and report your results.

FYI, 5 short beeps is a processor error.

Thanks for the reply!

No improvement with the CMOS reset exactly as you suggested I do it.

The VGA red light is on on the board.

I believe the issue is turning off CSM support to enable SecureBoot and this stops the Nvidia card from functioning.

I have read other posts today that show the only way to disable Secureboot once this happems is to use the intel on-chip graphics adapter and boot into the BIOS that way.

Alas, I have a KF processor which doesn't have built in graphics.

Any other suggestions would be very welcome.

Greetings,

What are your system specs?
What GPU are you using?
Most cards from 2016 or later are UEFI compliant or have a option to be flashed to compliance.

The CLR_CMOS should work.  Start pulling stuff, the GPU, all but one stick of memory, any connected devices., HDD or m.2..  "shake it up".

Remember however, I did say in my first reply that 5 beeps indicated a CPU issue.  At this point, you may want to remove the CPU and check the socket for bent pins as well since the system is not behaving normally and is not responding to normal (standard) reset.

Getting stuck during POST (VGA LED on). Failed CPU pre-initialization checks.  This means hardware.  This could happen because you have a "KF" processor, but you need to do more troubleshooting.

Something isn't right and your inability to reset the BIOS is looking like another problem.

ALT+F10 at POST will give you the ability to overwrite the back up BIOS.  READ THIS I do not recommend you do this.  It might be helpful however to see if the option comes up.  You can cancel out of it using the "x".

If you don't see this BIOS back up option, I don't think your issue is related to the settings you made...

What is happening is the Video card doesn't support UEFI. So everything was fine till you made changes in the bios. I would pull the battery and jump out the cmos for about 10 mins.

Then try to boot with out the video card. Use the video in the CPU. If it boots then make changes to what you had. I have never had a z390 board do it. But I have had the 10th gen boards do it.

Hi dmdilks,
Yep.  Mentioned some of these same things (start pulling stuff) to "shake it up" but he has a few issues.  His "KF" CPU doesn't have onboard graphics.  He hasn't replied and said what model GPU he has, so we don't know if its UEFI compliant.  He also said he pulled the battery and also tried CLR_CMOS without luck.  There are still some missing information.

Hope you are doing well  8)
